I only recently heard the term "flipping a lutz" despite being a casual figure skating fan for years now and even after reading explanations I still had trouble seeing what was so bad about them. this breakdown really helped! I also thought it was interesting seeing in the slow motion clips, even without paying attention to Adelina's sloppy take off into the jumps, her body position in the air just looks off center and clumsy compared to yuan's, who looks more graceful and in control.

Thanks for a masterful and objective analysis, finished with Lipinski's final comment. Sotnikova did what she could, but this is a farce and psychological damage for both skaters. False 'loser', fake winner. Hard to live as both. Possibly a fix would be to enhance the artistic impression 'rating' in the scorecards instead of skaters jumping around like monkeys, but corruption cannot be eliminated. It does ruin the nobility of probabably the noblest and cruelest sport of all. I watched (I do not remember) Katarina Witt winning her first gold in pampers and mother's lap, 2-3 motnhs old. Later I learned what 'artistic' impression means. This is simply a judging farce that robbed a deserving champion of what should have been a Witt type of success. Long live Kim Yuna. great video but prerotating the upper body isn’t really bad technique, especially less than 90°. since you pull over your right side, you have to “prerotate” some amount to get much of any rotation anyways
