I’m studying to be a LPN and wanna do home care. I already work as a home care PCA. I love the one patient at a time thing but I’m worried I won’t be paid really good

I am a home health PDN as well. As a RN they really dont pay well but I love what I do. I have been doing it for 8 years after working in the hospital for 3 to 3.5 years. I find that you can not get too close to the patient/family bc they will throw u under the bus for any little thing. If u look at them wrong.. Just saying. I have had some great patients and families that I love dearly but I dont trust people like I used to. Also u have to be extremely careful to not ever talk about any other nurse in the house or talk about the fam/patient with any other nurses. People also will watch you on camaras. They do not have to tell you. I just try to always stay in my lane and keep personal stuff personal always. Take care

You dont get to leave for lunch and I have had clients tell me I could run and get something real quick before but I dont do it. It is too risky. They will throw u under the bus for any little thing. Some people think that these companies have a big supply of nursing staff and will ask for another nurse a lot in the beginning until they dont have coverage for their fam member. There really is a shortage.

I’m a private duty nurse for pediatric patients and it’s great. You’re correct about daily tasks but adorable tiny patients and helping parents give their kids the best life possible. In Washington it’s about $29/hour to start.

Maxim home health sucks bad. They don't respect their field nurses, and they put you in some very jeopardizing situations, don't back you up when things get sticky. They will turn everything and anything against you to cover their butt.

I know there are differences between LPNs and RNs in the hospital. Are those same variations in the home? I know you discussed it briefly, but do you do a lot of domestic work in the home? I always assumed that was more of an aide’s job. Thank you for this video!!! Super informative!

In S. CA, as a private duty nurse in upper class areas, we make $65-85/hr. On some cases that are total care, there is an R.N and L.V.N or R.N and C.N.A ( 2 people) on each shift for 1 patient.

I need advice because we don't really need a private duty nurse but when our 1st one just flat out didn't listen to me and is older and.... Severely damaged me I went into a sort of postpartum depression not because I wanted to be away from my baby, Because I wanted to be around him after 3 months in very awful NICU.
She would go through a case of wipes A-day in I am not kidding. In the 3 towers if she worked you use about twice as many diapers we would use in irregular week.... Like the week before she was there.
And my son has Down's syndrome from and a feeding tube that's all he has wrong with him... I have the G button and the feeding pump down I could do it my sleep.
So does my partner his other parent... She works a nice day at home.
In addition to this his grandparents who love him in live very very close by are also experts at using the exact same sheen as my dad had cancer over a 3 year. And him in my mum said my dad with this same exact feeding pump.

So I fired her and I didn't know how to get our needs other than to go for a week without nurse care.
Well I've been in the health care field for while 1 very 1st jobs was actually doing medical coding and billing for a DME company
I know hippa, You have to take the class every so often I can't count how many times have taken it... Basic things I can recognise in icd 9 code now IC10 because I have not been working with that since it came out.... I majored in pharmacology minored psychology and Am very smart apparently I have mild mild mild autism which basically just means I am very smart and I don't do passive aggressive reading between the lines bullshit... IQ 174.
Being lesbian yes this baby was planned and yes at 12 weeks I found out he had down singerman did everything I could to prepare for this.

Now the nurse we have is stealing like literally she stealing food stamps from me who I get them in a higher dollar amount than most people because I am disabled as well.(PTSD Complex eval at level of war vet/ And panic disorder with agoraphobia.... Old walls detail and every other anxiety disorder.
However I deal with this very well because I was diagnosed 6 years old but from some paperwork I gone through apparently my obsessions impulsions begin age two... I remember specific phobias very well as young as 3 years old.
Ad age 6 or 7 I had obsessive compulsive disorder very very severely and panic attacks i thought they were heart attacks though.
My hope reason saying this is because I think they read that I have all these things and they think that are incompetent.

But neither of the oby gyn Sy had thought that I was incompetent... Neither of them doubted my bility to take care of a baby.
For weeks I waited to see what was so hard about Elliot and I finally got it O my God is just stupid Mickey tube??

So now the nurse we have is I guess being abused by her husband but I don't know if I offer you help and you don't take it please stop complaining.
And I did decide it wasn't gonna be social or friendly with her coz she wants to be best friends when I heard her talking bad about me and my wife on the phone.
I am boring in the houses like dead....
I just figured sense this was being forced on us I would use his 3 days to catch up on sleep and housework so since I am a mother in a housewife I used the service to my advantage because I was forced to find a way to.
For basically since the end of the 1st week we were very confidently did not want this at all...
Very scared to call the company back because there going to be like what they fired another nurse... Think the problem is S the problem is not us the problem is we cannot afford to feed this pregnant nurse and she helped herself to my son and nice food stamp money not the money directly but that's where the groceries come from and cheese eaten more in 3 days than my wife and me and my son formula eat... She changes in bareback on the couch there's poopy door diapers face down on the floor...
And like I said oh my God the food.
She's drinking 5 to 10 waters A-day and I do know we had a 24 pack of soda 2 days ago now we have 2

Well once I drink one will have 1.
So I don't understand why she got to eat the whole bunch of bananas, Wake me up because she's tired of watching the baby, Bring me a poopy diaper into the vacuum where I was smoking because she didn't feel like taking into the trash can so it's literally life were working for her.
Open my wife gets home she only has about it our to herself per day now because she just wants to sit there and talk about how awful and horrible her life is all day with her.
She doesn't do anything to take care of the baby all.. He was in his pyjamas without any dressing changes and she also leaves the feeding bags full formula which is need I say huge risk for disease??

I'm asking the nursing community directly what do I do

Another con about being a private nurse you will also lose skills if you are not working with more than one patient with different ailments so you can continue to advance your skills. I worked as a private nurse on and off as well and I love it. I am a introvert as so I also love being by myself.

What about nursing relief, for example, if you’re working a 12 hour shift…do you get overtime if relief is late? Are you mandated to wait for relief?

I never considered PDN. 11 yr nurse. Worked so many specialties in and out patient. Currently in a desperate situation where I feel I HAVE to leave or my mental and physical health will suffer. Applied to multiple roles and got a callback for a pDN role. About to set up interview. Your video has been EXTREMELY informative and helpful. With the right client/patient, I feel this might be EXACTLY what I need to get me through my last yr of NP school. Cheers! ❤
