Dr. Shabir Ally says Islam promises us that there is a life hereafter and we will have Paradise forever, a place of everlasting bliss and happiness. We know we can’t live forever, and yet we have an inner desire for everlasting life. Moreover, we see often that in this world justice is not done. If there's a life hereafter at least we can say justice isn't done here but it will be meted out in the life hereafter. In this life, we face many difficulties and hardships. it's hard to bear these unless we have some hope for eternal happiness in the life hereafter. Knowing that everlasting life and bliss awaits us also helps us to live an ethical life without needing to fulfill every want or desire. And it makes this life meaningful knowing that we are working towards a higher goal.
