White dwarfs are by far the scariest stellar objects in the game. Even black holes and neutron stars aren't that scary. (One of the reasons why white dwarfs are so dangerous is that their exclusion zone is surprisingly large. It easily catches the unwary by surprise.)

Yooo I’m a new player and I’ve seen that before

Sparks randomly coming out of every button at random points like the middle of a display without them turning off or even just malfunctioning or distorting instantly and completely killed my suspension of disbelief, I don't understand how everyone else is able to ignore it. I wish I could have gotten into it and felt how tense it apparently was to everyone else.

Totally me the first few times using the Neutron Highway. By the end of my run on Elite it was like hitting a gas station, just another day running to Colonia in 45 min or less.

I'd Imagine a black box recording of the pilot's cabin being something like this:

Pilot: Alright, jumping to LAWD 96. Heard it's a short cut more risky than the usual routes from a colleague, but it'll get me to my location faster.
Starship:-4, 3, 2, 1, Engage.

as soon as pilot gets out of jump sequence: The f- A WHITE DWARF!? [BEEP] AND IT"S NOT EVEN SPINNING... ARGH!
Grunting ensues as Pilot tries and fails to stabilize in the supercharged vents of the White Dwarf.
The ship starts creaking at various seems, and thruster power stops abruptly, initiating a power shutdown.
Pilot: Aggressively starts flipping loads of switches to divert power to thrusters and shields, "I'M GONNA [BEEEEEP] KILL HIM! I'M- [BEEEEP] [BEEP] [BEEP] inhale [BEEP] [BEEP] [BEEP] [BEEEEEEEEEEEEEP] [BEEP]-
Nearly all holographic indicators start glitching and sparking everywhere there's a wire and little fires start appearing in the cabin as alarms blare.
Pilot: HE'S DEAD WHEN I GET OUT OF HERE!!! [BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP]
More alarms start firing off in the cabin as he does his best to frame shift out of the White dwarf's range.
Cracking can be heard and the pilot goes deathly silent in his expletives.
Eventually he manages to get a frame shift jump vaguely in the direction of his next location with a sigh, however, the audio cuts out as the black box wiring gets severed from a power surge caused by the jump.

that star has claimed my ship before, I was flying a hauler and thus didn't stand a chance. I hit the exclusion zone when supercharging and failed my transport mission. glad to see it didn't take yours though

Haha insane! So don’t press the fsd button in a panic. Instead, stay in supercruise, watch your throttle, and the direction you are going. It’s hard to control the ship direction, but every time you are not facing directly towards the star, raise the throttle to get out of the cone.

I never played this game or even heard of it before, but man was that harrowing.

The rattling crack of glass followed by the cold emotionally flat voice of "warning, canopy compromised" is horrifying. If the canopy goes down, you'd just be instantly incinerated.

Ha! I always did wonder if this could ever happen to me jumping to to a White Dwarf or Nuetron Star. I've had my ship race through the smaller star of a binary pair in close orbit around each other before a few times and crapped my pants every time as I've seen a commander get stuck in the texture of a star below the corona in video once and spend ten seconds taking heat damage while somehow flying out, and I've jumped into a system with a mini black hole about 15m across which I honestly don't know if it was just a glitch or not and which I was able to hilariously fly over like a speedbump, but never experienced this yet.
It's always been a nightmare in the bacck of mind though, a nightmare that just became reality.

Normally you would have to align away from the star to get to your escape vector for the FSD to turn on, no?
