Just dealt with something like this to attend the Disney on Ice with my child at Prudential center. Ticket price was $65 for good, non premium seats. Somehow the total for 3 of us became $300+, which is absolutely ridiculous. We had to spend another $100 just to buy our $65 a piece seats?
This whole interrogation is all smoke and mirrors by the way- it's not like it's going to drive any change unless there can be legislation established that forces Ticket master to address the scalper bots that are buying these tickets. Much bigger problems to be addressing- like how will the grid be able to support the forced adoption of electric vehicles??

Live Nation uses strongarm tactics and owns and runs the major MUSIC venues across the United States. They like to talk about stadiums and areans but major music acts want to play at amphitheaters and dedicated music venues. They lie out of their ass and compare themselves to these sports venues and such but we know that's not a true comparison.

This is what they’re doing, they set the ticket prices at a reasonable level, but they all have insider companies that they also invest in. These, “businesses”, (that they control) then buy all the tickets to these popular events and leverage the resale market. That’s the real issue, is no one is ever buying tickets from the direct seller, they’re sold out the minute they’re available.

They need to go back to the old way, you stand in line at the venue to get tickets. That way you cut out the middle man. Service fees are reason tickets cost too much.

Lol Trent Reznor was complaining about this over a decade ago. He begged borrowed and stole a small number of tickets from Ticketmaster that he sold as fan club tickets. There were strict requirements to get these tickets so it made it hard for scalpers to get their hands on them and they were always the best section of the venue. He said those were the only tickets they allowed him to sell free of fees so the vast majority of the tickets were worse seats at a higher price. He even talked about how some artists team up with Ticketmaster to gouge prices on the presale tickets that they both make healthy profits on. Unfortunately if you actually want to play in a venue large enough to reach your fans you have no other choice but to go through them with booking. It’s impossible for large acts.

Live Nation turned big concerts to be something experienced by wealthy people and the people who aren't wealthy can only view the concert with binoculars.

Can we keep it simple. They are making concerts too expensive. They are charging too fucking much in fees and they are paying third parties to buy up tickets and then resell them for a portion of the profit at increased prices. Stop dancing around the fucking bullshit. Tell them the are pieces of shit, and either cut it the fuck out, or they will legislate change that will cut them in half.

Ticketmaster provides a service that benefits the wealthy by hoovering up choice tickets then reselling them to people that can afford the higher prices. The USA has about 340M people and when a major act plays in NYC or many other places the number of potential people that might want to go to that concert is higher than the number of seats at the stadium/arena so the wealthy would have no more chance of getting one of the limited number of seats than the average working stiff. But, with companies like Ticketmaster controlling the tickets and being able to charge much higher rates, this weeds out a huge percentage of the potential audience making it easier for the wealthy to get tickets. Yeah, the wealthy have to pay more than face value, but they can afford it and that premium provides exclusivity that the average working types aren't in a position to take advantage of. There is a reason why celebrities and wealthy types seem to always be able to get tickets to top games and shows -- the system is designed to facilitate giving priority to high rollers -- for a fee!

I had the opportunity to see a limited show for Gregory Alan Isakov at the Stanley hotel in Colorado which was one one the best concerts I had ever experienced. However, if my ex who bought the tickets for us and our friends hadn't jumped on early and the website didn't make a mistake of selling early, we wouldn't have been able to buy tickets for under $550. It was sold out one minute into them beginning the sale. We checked later and wow did that price jump from scalpers that were associated with ticket master and Live Nation. I'm glad Taylor Swift fans are pressing this hard. This is a monopoly. They own the board with a hotel on all spaces when it comes to live entertainment.
