From the movies you get the impression that the war he waged against the numenorians were like a final battle of everything. In reality it was just a spontaneous attack he did on his previous allies.

Sauron by the time of the Third Age had regained a physical form (the Peter Jackson movies imply he was incapable of doing this without the One Ring). While next to no real detail is given, Gollum says that during his imprisonment and toture within Barad-dûr, the Dark Lord only had nine fingers due to the one Islidur cut from him to obtain the Ring.

Sauron was not captured immediately by the Númenoreans following his first defeat in his War against the Elves. Sauron with only a small handful of his bodyguard fled back to Mordor in defeat whist swearing vengeance upon the Númenoreans whom had robbed him of his great victory. It was not until the regin of Ar-Pharazôn many centuries later that Sauron revealed himself once more and proclaimed himself god-king of all Men. Ar-Pharazôn, not willing to take this insult brought forth an army so vast and mighty that virtually none dared stand against them when they arrived in Middle-earth. Sauron, realising his mistake beforehand of underestimating the great strength of Númenor willingly allowed himself to be taken back a prisoner, thus allowing him to destroy his enemies from within. Quickly rising from prisoner to a high priest, Sauron managed to corrupt many within Númenor including Ar-Pharazôn himself into abandoning Eru Ilúvatar and the Valar and to the dark worship of his master Morgoth.

This story is not entirely accurate.

First off the elven rings were made in secret by Celebrimbor and that’s why Sauron had no control over the three rings the elves had.

Second, Sauron couldn’t control the dwarves because they have a natural resistance to the rings, it only made them more greedy.

Also when Sauron went away for 1000 years he was hiding from Eru and the valar. After one thousand years he took over Morgoths place because he thought they would not look for him.

Little did he know they sent other maiar like Sauron in the form of the wizards that were sent to oppose him.

There are a lot of issues with this video. Though I admire some of the art.

This isn't exactly accurate as Elendil and Gil-galad were the ones who vanquished Sauron in battle though at the cost of their own lives with Isildur cutting the Ring from his defeated body.

This is great, just one correction. Elendil and Gil Galad are the ones who defeat Sauron at the Last Alliance. Sauron burns Gil Galad alive with the heat of his hand and Elendil is slain as well, but not before they first both take Sauron down and severely weaken him. Isildur then uses Narsil to just cut the ring off Sauron’s hand. He doesn’t actually defeat Sauron himself

Amazon could learn a thing or two from this video.
