Come to Turkey, it's beautiful, the people are friendly, and most are very honest. Best of all, it's cheap, mostly. Dinning out is not expensive unless you want an adult beverage. Those prices are near what you'd pay in the US or Europe. A beer can easily cost more than the meal. In my 12 years here I've found that taxis are seldom needed. The airports have shuttle buses, the city has buses, the metro, and dolmus's. All safe, convenient, and inexpensive. In the tourist areas just be firm but polite and say NO. Many come and buy clothes, just be aware that much of it is fake. You can go to the pazar (bazar) and find the same thing with several different logos. They're okay, just not the real thing. Don't buy a "genuine Rolex" for $50 and be surprised when your arm turns green. Watches will be sold as fake or genuine fake, which is slightly better. Mostly, just visit. It's a wonderful country.

Been to Istanbul and I can say that the store owners are very in your face. I ended up walking in the middle of the walking area between the 2 store areas all the way down. Just don't make eye contact.

I was taken to somebody's carpet shop by the tour guide of our azamara cruise. And of course the jewellery section below. Which of course they entised me to buy and I like a fool paid a ridiculous amount of money for the jewellery i think I was totally scammed on the price

google reviews are good as well.
if a restaurant keeps scamming, review them and smash them with bad reviews.

Except for street vendors and very large corporate businesses in Turkey, there will be people looking for opportunities to scam you. be careful.

What a silly scam with the fake menu mistake, I would still pay only the price I saw at the menu at the beginning. it is simple :Their ''mistake'' their loss

If this is how tourists are treated in Turkey, what is the point of going there?

I live near Dalaman, and use the airport frequently. Never once have I encountered fake taxis. They'd have to get through the really strict security, and many taxi drivers that rely on their fares for income. I'm not saying you won't be charged higher prices as you shop as a tourist, but this about airport taxis I find hard to believe.

i’ve encountered in one restaurant..they have 2 different menus..one in english one in turkish(local)..for english menu,they charge higher price..but the same menu in turkish..hmmm hahahah..we noticed it so we told the owner..so they only charged as local..if tou wont notice,you will be scammed

Most people get scammed because most of of the scammers offers you cheaper options.
Stay with reputable places, book in advance online and use official taxis and Uber.

Thank you, also I experienced another scam, in taksim there’s a lot of pigeons, they’re beautiful lovely and you definitely want to take some pictures, there would be people offering you food to feed them, never accept the food even tho they wouldn’t ask for money (at first), he offered food for the pigeons , took our phone and insisted he takes pictures of us, and after he finished we wanted to tip him until he said no it’s actually my job and asked us for a lot of money! And it’s really hard to argue!

No. You don’t tell your address in taxis in Turkey, nobody here drives to addresses but your supposed to guide them to the way

I went to Turkey and got scammed a few times and few times I also avoided scam. First was in Higa Sophia when guy decided be our guide and I tried to walk away. He was extremely angry. Unfortunately my husband decided pay him even I worn him before. I saw shoe guy and he dropped brush in front of us. We didn’t pay attention and he was disappointed. But we had really bad experience in a central bazar. Sellers offer us a Turkish rugs, they brought us to the second or third floor empty building. They turn on elevator for us, was very kind and smiley. We went to the big room and they started to show is rugs. Prices were in 10 times more than in US and most important these rugs were made in China. When I told them I need to think and maybe I will come back, they were extremely angry and didn’t turn on elevator for us. Sorry but I didn’t feel safe. They tricked us in restaurant as well, but the scariest part was when some tall guy in long leather coat follow us every step. We escaped him just stepping inside unknown building and watched him looking for us from second floor window. But I like beauty of Istanbul and anyways will recommend visit this country. Just be careful.

A guy i know got scammed badly recenty, in Antalya. Suddenly some guy pulled up in a car. Offering to sell perfume, only £30. He paid by card. Then later notice that £400 left his account!!! Never pay strangers by card.

The only scam I remember about Turkey was the restaurant that had know price's on the menu then charges the customer an absolute fortune at the end .

I've been to turkey many times 80 percent of them only want your money get in your face to buy things can't walk past a shop or restaurant making you feel uncomfortable

The best way with taxis just get the gps on the phone they can't scam you

Been to turku over 20 times in my life used to love it. Got scammed, gave the benefit of the doubt, went back got scammed again, then assaulted by a conplete stranger in the street. Will never go back. On my 4th holiday in Greece as we speak, not once hassled, conned, scammed, total respect and relaxation. Very sad because Turkey is a truly beautiful country, i will miss it.

I travelled to Turkey many times and never had issues with scammers. I found that it was just the opposite. Great people, great country, beautiful nature, stunning beaches and delicious food. I sincerely recommend Türkiye to everybody. Greetings from Sweden to Lovely Turkish people and to all travellers💖🇹🇷

I had the bar scam happen to me in Istanbul.
After I was ripped off I went back out to hunt down my "friend".
I found him.
Put it this way, he didn’t go home that night.😊

I got scammed by a lady taxi driver in Prague Airport recently, so taxis are notorious of being so wherever you go. Amazingly, I never got scammed by a taxi in Moscow and i used them daily.

i got scammed in turkey , taxi and bar (total cost: 400 euro. i could have done better of course but my moto is stay far from trouble, in that case never ever going to turkey again.

Thank you so much Olga! I have lived in Turkey for 25 years but becuase I have blond/white hair and blue eyes they still try to scam me!! It is so sad because this country has so much potential and they could do so much better if they were honest!! However, there are some good ones but you need to be on your guard all the time.

I love Türkiye and most Turkish people, but there are many dishonest people and scammers out there. What a shame. The good and honest people in Türkiye should get rid of the bad people, fast. The taxi drivers are the worst of them all, we have experience that personally more than once when we were in Türkiye. They are just a bunch of shameless, dishonest crooks.

Always make a photo of the scammers, right into their face. They need to learn that they cannot get away with it.

I've been scammed every single time in Turkey. I got old money change when I bought something at the airport. I have to pay a cup of tea 10 times more than the locals. And yes, the price of the food 3 times more than written on the menu. I never thought of taking photo of the menu. So far I never met anybody is polite.

so much fake info... why are you scaring people that much? a shoe scammer who asks for 100 euro? come on! i am visiting turkey since 30 years and nobody asked me ever for that much money?! you have to be aware of taxi drivers, yes! that is true. you have to be aware of anything in tourist regions all over the world... no matter which country! usa, uk, germany, italy or turkey. nothing special. the problem is always the human beeing. turkish people do not spam or scam more or less than any other... anyware.

Hair dressers are also scammers.. they will say 100Lira for haircut.. they will then start doing skin and hair treatment randomly without asking... they will then bump the price to 1700Lira... the barber will then threaten to beat you up
