The sad thing is it didn’t matter how many people were there , the weight of the sand made it impossible to get to her . I think there was another story of a sink hole while digging on a beach , but they were lucky

My father lost a friend in high school to this exact problem … digging in sand at beach, it collapsed, he died. My father always warned us about this as children, but reading these comments it sounds like many people do not know how dangerous digging large holes in the sand is. Don’t do it, and don’t let others do it … if you see it, please warn them and alert authorities.

People do this all the time and just don’t understand the danger. There needs to be signs all over the beach about digging, people don’t know.

Never, ever heard of this danger. We always did this at beaches ats kids, and my kids did so as well.

This is unbelievable and such a big tragedy! What kind of sand is that!!! Killer sand! I have never ever heard or seen sand like this. I wish a lot of patience to this family. I am so sorry this happened to their beautiful daughter. She was so adorable.

Public beach parks could put a safety signs to bring awareness to beach dangers that aren’t as common as rip tides and sharks!
