Question: I used to have a credit card, got in pretty bad debt, then when I started saving money, the judge ruled I paid my debt without warning and removed the money from my account. That sucked, but at least I don't have debt anymore. I want to build my credit up, but I'm scared because credit cards got me debt in the first place. I was also young and stupid back then. For someone like me who had debt and paid it, what's the best kind of credit card to start with?

Discover does not report your history to credit bureaus. I found out I had almost no credit history despite the fact that I had a 10-year card with them. I would recommend avoiding them

1. get a secured credit card
2. become an authorized user on someone else's card
3. get an installment loan
