13secs in, why would anyone think that you can just plug it into a wall....
There are many capacitors, resistors and more in a power supply.
All needed in order to make sure the right voltage and amps are being provided to the PC.

If this is not already understood then you have no need for a PC or to build one.
I will let this video play while I go take a poop, hope the watch time helps with your journey.

Does a 1000w PSU constantly use 1000w of energy, or does it only consume the energy demanded by the components?

Excellent work... even though the video is very simplified, it keeps the principles comprehensible and that is not always done that well 👍

Well, I have a 600W power supply (I don't even remember the name anymore, the sticker came off) it must have at least 20 years of constant use, I don't even know if it still delivers 600W, but it still works perfectly fine, upgrade after an upgrade, and today it runs a Core i7 with a radeon hd 7700 (it's old, but it works for me). The fact is that I myself cannot understand how it can work for so many years on end, it's okay that it has already gone through some cleaning and even changing the fan, but here's an old warrior!

I found out exactly how those black capacitors work as a kid. I was playing with a disposable camera. Well, I did the forbidden touch of a charged capacitor and did 1000 push-ups in a fraction of a second. Not a workout routine I'd recommend.

Reminded me when I was kid, I soldered bunch of random circuit boards and cords from dads closet, and plugged in into 220v. It blew on some component or contact, and nothing serious is happened. Some stupid kid logic, when I thought that if put some random crap together it can actually do something.

So, if you swap the coil spins, you can multiply instead of divide the voltage. The transformer in a used/broken microwave scales up 110 to 2k, which is incredibly dangerous, but if wired in reverse it brings the voltage down by the same factor. The reason I know, is my crazy 8 year old making me take one apart.

I like the idea of a single voltage powering the entire motherboard, would make it much easier to build an internal UPS, or to connect it to a vehicles DC power source, such as in an RV

Ahaaaa! It’s got X— and Y- Capacitors in it. So it’s like humans having X- and Y- Chromosomes. Perhaps that’s why people also call it a „Trans former“?!? 😏
