anytime I listen to a new band that has mid 2000's emo sound, literally goosebumps. I love that sound and the fact that it brings me back. PERFECTION.

makes sense like you said the emo resurgence be popular towards gen z as well and Gen Y that was 15 and 17 when the music was very popular the first time

Unfortunately emo isn't back, just some really great bands resurfacing again. It's up to the younger generation to really bring back emo and make it their own.

Mostly thirst trap content, if I had to guess? That's why Deftones are popular again. It's sexy music, so it works for that kind of thing.

I’m only 24. I’ve been listening to Emo music since I was 7 years old, mainly because of my dad. My dad was never really ‘Emo’ but was definitely the biggest influence of my music taste. We used to listen to MCR, All Time Low, and tons of others bands that were popular in the early to mid 2000s in the car together. Thanks dad

although i get the massive difference between everyone being fed the same stuff on mtv and highly personalized tiktok feed, i don't think we didn't have subcultures back then. at least where i'm from it was always pretty divided...

For music, yes it revived

For fashion, they’re dead since 2013. It’s just evolved into “eboy/egirl” aesthetic. It is a successor of emo scenes.

I loved emo in high school and college, but I hated the scene with a passion. I grew up with this sense of modesty where I’d be embarrassed to dress like that. What sucks is that I didn’t listen to a lot of good bands because of that aversion.

That hair… like good god.

Those emo bands only had success because they rode on the coattails of the pop punk bands. Though they weren’t as successful. They’re still associated with each other. That said, every pop punk and emo band owes their ass to Green Day. They pioneered that scene and are the only one that still holds real success, relevance, and influence today.

Idk i feel like todays generation doesn't "get it" like we did back in it's hayday. Kinda like those kids that liked Depeche Mode, Christian Death, and The Smiths in the early 2000s and 2010s. They do it for the clout without understanding where the bands we're coming from or looking into what the world was like when the music came out.

I would fuckin love an episode on midwest emo. As an avid listener to all the pop punk, metalcore and emo, I've found such a love for midwest emo. It's such an interesting Mashup of genres that sounds so good. I found out after years of me adulting and my sister going through high school that we both share a love of the genre. Bands like Marietta, modern baseball, Michael Cera Palin, McCafferty and origami angel are doing such cool stuff right now

I think that the end of the "monoculture" will also lead to the lack of relevancy of certain awards shows (Grammys, VMAs, etc.). There are so many artists and subcultures out there now that it's impossible for them to nominate all of them. There are already 75+ Grammy categories yet still we have people mad that their fav artist wasn't nominated for any of them.

Emo will NEVER die because it was never just industry music, it was written for us by us, the kids who grew up in broken homes, with divorced parents who couldn’t get along or were afterthoughts to their parents or who had a parent in prison or even the kids that just felt like an outsider. Emo kids love Emo music because Emo kids wrote the songs 🤟

I'm a gen z emo and i am so envious of elder emos, i wish i could have been a teen back then since yes on tiktok you'll see a lot of gen z emos but in real life they're so rare 😭

I feel the 2000s was the best time, other than the problematic stuff. But it was the start of the internet yk and people still went out. Things were more colorful, creative. the fashion was silly but good in a way and expressive. I feel that the music today does suck tbh. Emo stuff today is occasionally good but I mean other genres.

I mean, those were big name bands for sure but there are definitely others Taking Back Sunday, Senses Fail, The Used, Brand New, Dashboard Confessional, Say Anything, Good Charlotte, Finch, Bayside, Jimmy Eat World, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, New Found Glory, All-American Rejects

I had so many person favorites...
Mayday parade
Eyes Set to Kill
Tokio Hotel
Boys Like Girls
Four Letter Lie
Spitalfield
Flyleaf
Alkaline Trio
Blink-182
AFI
From Autumn to Ashes
Hast the Day
Sleeping With Sirens
Bring Me the Horizon

It's hard because a lot of these blended some genres between pop-punk, emo, screamo, etc. but all still had that emo appeal.

Now there's new emo

MGK
PALAYE ROYALE
YUNGBLUD
Hot Mulligan
Anxious
Knuckle Puck
Oolong

The Emo music and aesthetics resound and youth could related with it, because the recent events in the last few years: The Covid 19 pandemic and lock-downs, the Ucranian war, the unestable and pesimistic future.... It was a music full of anger and teenage angst.

Im Gen X. This music still confuses me. When it does, i just put on some Pantera, Mr. Bungle, Voodoo Glow Skulls, or some far-out German Stoner rock with 30 minute songs... and go lift weights in the garage....and i feel young again. When i listen to music...so do my neighbors 😊
