Survivor 45 Review

I really hated this season. Dee and Austin romance was totally cringe. I think I am 45 and out, I have seen every season to date.

Jake and Kellie are my votes for headlining a new second chance season!!

I never thought I would ever watch any existing, or future new era seasons with (mostly) all new players just bc I’ve never really seen anything about any of them that looked interesting and have always liked returning player stacked casts…but I did see some things about this season that got me curious and I was so shocked by how incredible this entire cast was (especially post-merge!!) I loved this season and would’ve been satisfied with more than half of the players that made it to the jury/final 3

The WORST season i ve seen in years. Complete dissapointment.
Minimal gameplay, a lot of fear and stupid decisions.
Also really bad casting. Almost all players were irrellevant and boring.
I kind of enjoyed the season up until the point Caleb left.
But seriously S45 is maybe my least favorite season of survivor.

What drove me mad was some incredibly stupid gameplay. Wasn’t there multiple times where EVERYONE put their vote on 1 player, even though they knew they had a hidden immunity idol? That just led to the HII being played, and that one person having all the power to vote who they wanted out.. like.. common, be smarter than that.

I honestly felt the season was “over edited”. It felt like the show forced me to think of players as “dumb” or “strategic” or other, without really giving me a real reason to think so. Like Austin played an amazing game but they purposefully overshadowed him in favor of Dee (yeah I know why but shouldn’t the edit be less obvious?)

I still have to watch the season 45 finale.
I was floored when I heard Dee betray Austin.
If Julie ended up taking Dee out, she deserved it. If not, I'm still not sure she deserves Austin. Austin... Open your eyes!
Yep, Dee might have made fatal mistakes for her, Austin's or both their games.
I'm not team Austin & Dee... wouldn't ever not be looking over my shoulder.

I'm not really sure what it is about modern survivor but I just have a hard time enjoying most of these characters. I know you aren't supposed to like everyone necessarily but so many characters this season just rubbed me the wrong way and not even in like a villain way just like a "wtf is wrong with this person way." I think part of that has to do with the lack of themed seasons though, which makes every season just feel like a superfan season.

Honestly, i don't really get how people could not at least like the season it had so many great moments the Kelly blindsided the Kaleb shot in the dark and the 2 1 1 1 vote plus one of the most in depth cast ever and a deserving winner what's not to love?

i like jake but he will never win this game. everyone already knows he's a lawyer, which turned him into persona non grata for any alliances. a social pariah, "i just can't trust him" from literally everybody. also he had big move-itis. at final counsel he had to be consoled by the guy he fought with, and nobody voted for him. i was rooting for him, i'm so pissed he lost, annoyed that all his good moves were foiled by people acting against their own self-interest... but he shouldn't play again. play for what, for everyone to ostracize him again? ride off into the sunset my sweet dude

I liked 45 a lot. My favorite of the New Era remains 42, though. I just liked the overall cast and unpredictability more in 42.

But regardless of liking 42 more, I think that 45 is absolutely a step in the right direction for the setup and experience of this New Era.

I just finished binge watching Survivor after watching it all the way through for the first time and damn was this a fantastic season to finish that journey on! This is definitely the best season in the new era by far(thanks partially to longer episodes to understand everything better), one of the best original casts since Cagayan, and a solid winner! However, this season was sooo good that Survivor 46 looks terrible compared to this😂

Tbh for me the season was really good. The only thing that annoyed me was that how much Katurah would NOT STOP YAPPING about how annoying bruce was lol

This was such a trash season with a boring winner.

I swear this show is getting weaker by the season. So many people that shouldn't be there. I'm sick of "super-fans" who can't climb a lader or people who want out after a few days (unheard of a few seasons ago). People like Jake, who supposedly is a lawyer, but didn't show one reasonably smart thought or decision the entire season. Put all this together and of course you have a plastic doll like Dee winning. She was the smartest of them all and used Austin like a puppet. But put her against players from 10-15 seasons ago and she would be amongst the first eliminated. Weak show, weak contestants, a Jeff Probst trying hard to keep things interesting (how many times can you say "new era"? And what does that even mean?). I used to watch this religiously. Now I watched the season finale 2 weeks after it aired. I want heroes, I want villans, I want challenges monsters like Ozzy. This one had only stupid people trying to act smart and smart people trying to act macho.

Sorry, I have to note on your video, are you saying that this season, the season where two players left the game of their own free will, was the best way to start the new era? No, they need to bring back survivor that’s not so brain-based, but equal out with strength and intelligence.

Let’s just say for starters that I wanted Jake to win. I understand why Dee won but the circumstances that made her win. weren’t comparable to the struggle that Jake went through. Another thing I need to put out there is that Austin is a dumb ass guys. He thought with his third leg instead of his brain. I understand that winning more immunity challenges and had a stronger alliance, but the jury this year didn’t understand the issues that Jake had to overcome before getting to the final three. One piece of evidence that I thought that made Jake more likely to win was that he made himself stand out and try to fight against the strong alliances. He Tried to save Caleb, which for me was my favorite player and I hope was many others favorite player, he tried to destroy the Reba strong alliance that took over the game in the end. I am salty about the season just because after all the tribes are merged, it should be an individual game not an alliance strong game. I could’ve told you that going into the merge that one of the two big tribes would have a winner on them just because of their majority. I also think that the players this year were idiotic when they showed their idol and they didn’t play like a true survivor. Lastly, I think survivor should go back to instead of being puzzle heavy they need to equal out strength and brains. All these skinny guys and gals who use their brains immediately vote out the stronger players due to their physicality. I want to survivor where there’s all strong players. Let’s be for real the last three seasons have been the worst survivor seasons of all time. Prove me wrong. 😅

Looking back, it's crazy how Katurah almost singlehandedly ruined every Belo's shot at winning...just to be the 6th member of a four-person alliance.

As much as i was routing for austin, by the final episode i was screaming "Dee, you deserve to be the winner" because the season deservess a magnetic winner like Dee

Have we ever seen an easier walk to the end for any player besides Dee?
Dee literally never struggled. Never had to work with players outside of her original alliance. Never had to worry about being the target. The ONLY strategy Dee used was to lie to Austin and hide behind her numbers advantage after Belo imploded. Dee was the player I wanted Emily to be, a backstabbing, cut throat liar with no sense of guilt. Deception is important, but giving the win to the person riding on Austins back for a month is a tragedy. No love for Austin either, he couldn't keep his fat mouth shut when they were going to blindside Julie which sent Emily home because ALL of them were too stupid to split votes just to be safe. Dee is basically a Puerto Rican version of Parvati, giant fake smile and all.

I think if it isn't for the Dee & Austin relationship Drew probably wins

Season was bad, twists were bad, cast was extra bad, strategy was bad, winner was bad. Miss me with this garbage.

I don’t like how katurah and emily went with reba instead of flipping when they had multiple opportunities. I also dislike how so many times in early merge people lost votes.

At the end of this season and he said Fiji I was like wait Fiji again?

Re your comment "Jake was shifty", would it be more accurate to say that "Katurah thought that Jake was shifty?" given that he did actually vote the way that she told him to. She said she didn't trust him but I never quite understood why. Ironically it was Katurah who ended up being shifty and not Jake.

What I took from this season is that Old-School Survivor is not dead. It was so weird to see a group stick together for a majority of the game, and waiting until the end to pick each other off. Even then, two of them made the end.

The winner didn't focus on making the "big moves". Dee played with loyalty, played with her people, mixed her heart in with her strategy and WON with that strategy. In an era that was dominated by advantages and a "strategy/moves first" mentality, seeing someone win where the main part of their game was that she was loyal to her people is very refreshing.

Loved this season. By far my fave of the new era, and the 90 minute episodes certainly helped. I think the show is finding the groove with this new era, and I hope we keep going up with it!

I’m not that upset about the Sean quit, but I am upset that he didn’t quit one day earlier. That would’ve let Sabiyah get to the swap with an idol. At least she was interesting.

Also the strength of the cast shows in how much a lot of us want a lot of the players back.

Everyone wants Kellie, Emily and Caleb back but I would love to see Drew playing again.

Survivor is one of the best examples of a society in decay . Consider that one of the most popular shows on tv ever is based in part on lies and deception and that these lies and deception are 100% accepted as being a necessary reality of modern living . very sad indeed

Unpopular opinion, I did not like Dee at all ! Playing Austin, swearing on her parents, kinda bossy idk she just did come off as like able to me😬

Strong start but ending was pretty dull with how bad Jake and Katura were at the game.
