Base 7600 if you use your cpu regularly
7600X if you want to overclock it.

The 7600x cpus r usually only 20 ish dollars more than the non x versions and before someone says the x doesn’t come with a fan , u can literally buy a better air cooler for like 30 bucks that will cool it no problem. I have the 7600x with a cooler master 212 and it works just fine

How good is a pair of 7600 and 3080?

the 7600x will have a lower bottleneck on a good gpu so if you got a (for example) 6700 xt and 7600x, you could upgrade the gpu more significantly which might matter more plus you can easily save the difference between those two cpus by getting a slightly cheaper gpu, example: buy a zotac card instead of a msi model)

Not gonna lie i did build like 2 pcs with Ryzen
One in 2018 one in 2022, and used the stock cooler, 0 issues with that, but i guess no overclocking or overhead for Ryzen 7s, those might need a 6x8 heat pipe cooler or aio especially when gaming

The 7600X is better binned. Otherwise they are identical and each can be made to perform like the other.

The two 7600X I bought new retail off Amazon were cheaper than the 7600 at the time. $199 on the first one and $175 for the 2nd one. Picked up locally from a guy a brand new sealed 7600 for $150 and used 7600X for $120. Don't plan to touch my all 7000 series builds for likely 2 years. As better deals appear I will phase them out one by one like I did Zen+, Zen2, Zen3,etc.
