Here's the thing, the V's control the broadcasts of hell. Val is the adult film industry, Velvette is the social media/modeling industry, and Vox is the broadcasting/advertising. They control all the consumer industries except for one--radio.
So, my theory is that Vox wanted Alastor to join their team so they could have complete control over the consumer/entertainment industry, but Alastor refused for his own reasons. And by saying no, he ruined their plans and future business endeavors.

I think they were friends, maybe even business partners at one point, but Vox wanted to be more and Alastor ended up rejecting him (and probably did so in the worst way possible). Vox always comes off more as a bitter ex than anything else.

I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if Vox is just pissy from Alastor rejecting him.

Before the season finale I would've just thought that they used to be business partners, but dude was a little too into that for him to just be upset about losing a business partner.

I don’t think it’s confirmed that Alastor is aroace. I know he’s asexual but that doesn’t mean he’s aromantic as well. And even if he is that also still doesn’t rule out the possibility of a relationship. There are people on the ace spectrum that do seek romantic and/or sexual relationships with other people

note - alastor isnt canonically aro, it was a headcannon made up by one of the anymators or something, viv has confirmed that alastor is canonically only ace and that shes fine with alastor ships.

Honestly, if there was any sort of romance involved in their relationship (which I think is unlikely, but not completely out of the question since ace aro people can have past relationships), it was probably strictly one-sided from Vox. It's possible he may have had some variation of feelings for him and either never confessed because of Alastor suddenly terminating their friendship and leaving or his confession was part of the reason they became enemies, right before Alastor's 7-year hiatus. Vox does seem particularly obsessed with Alastor, but this could also definitely be just a friend/business partner turned rival thing like you said.

Whatever the case is, I'm excited to see how it all plays out and I'm hyped for season 2 :D

Technically aro ace people can still experience love just not really romantically in nature, just strong feelings. So my guess is Alastor was good friends with Vox maybe but never a couple. Alastor is capable of caring just not romantically. I think Vox was attracted to him and Al, being his aroace self, wasn’t interested at all, and that might’ve caused tension, Vox being rejected with unrequited feelings, Alastor with being around someone who really liked him and is now bitter over it.
