All that happened with the Andrew Neil interview is, is Shapiro assumed his normal dishonest tactics wouldn't be detected. Joe’s point that the interview wasn’t a longer conversation is irrelevant. If the purpose of an interview is to put an alternative to someone’s views it doesn’t need to be a 3 hour conversation. In those cases they more often become shouting contests. Look at what happened when Joe hosted a pro-vegan and anti-vegan on the same show.

Joe’s longer form interviews work largely because they are civil. He doesn’t frequently press his interviewers with hard questions. There’s a place for both formats.

The good thing that came out of the Ben Interview with the BBC is he got called out for being a hypocrite, and rightly so. Joe wouldn’t do the same on his podcast.
