"Guys who cheat ALWAYS have a girl they come back to and cheat again then come back". That hit me hard. 😭 I was in a 4-5 year relationship with a guy I loved so much who did this to me and hurt me badly. I'm to blame for loving him so much I kept taking him back. Been single for 5 years now cz I'm NEVER going through any of that again. Dang!!!

I went to see this movie at the cinema and it left such a bad taste in my mouth forever cz it's so dark. Nothing so far hurts me more than cheating. I've been cheated on by the guy who behaved a lot like Robert. He was working but earning less than I although he got extra cash whenever he went away for work. He lived with me in my apartment and contributed nothing. I bought food, toiletries, electricity, paid for the TV, you mention it. I'd also be the one taking us out when I had money, and paid the bill. He never did that for me. He always went out without me claiming it will only be "the guys" out there and that they're also nit bringing their gf's. And he cheated on me so many times until I finally told him to leave. I could have and should have left him after the 1st time I found out but I loved him and forgave him. Well, I was in for the longest 4 years of my life with him. So this movie just makes me sad and mad. I'm mad at him for what he did to her. I'm mad at her for what many of us who ignore red flags end up doing to ourselves. The longer you stay with an abuser, the more hurt and entitled you'll feel towards him and his achievements in future cz you feel like he owes you for all the years you CHOSE to stay with him. I've learned this the hard way but I now also realize that we hurt ourselves by stooping low for loving on the man we can clearly see is not worth it. 😭

50.00 : It was an missed oppotunity not to have Ring the Alarm by beyonce playing when she went crazy!! It literally is what that song is about. lol but this is one of my favorite Tyler Perry production's . Besides the Why did I get married series and some of the Plays. " Madea's class reunion the play , and Done in the Dark the play. ! It reallly makes me upset that a 2nd one never came out. They left a perfect opening for it. I think at one point they were talking about it , but It never happened.

Just because he paid her $10M and got her family house back does not give her the 18 years of tireless work days and neglect she received in that relationship back. She doesn't get back that time and dedication that drained her every day while he laid in bed sleeping and working on his prototype that she funded. He had no fight in him to keep the marriage. He chose to cut a check and say that that fixes 18 years of neglect, which it doesn't. He isn't wrong in moving on, he's wrong in fulfilling promises he made to her with the woman he cheated on her with and making it seem like she just needs to get over it and move on as fast as he did. This is the same woman that she caught him with when she lost the ability to ever bare children. But hey here's $10M and your moms house, we cool? No! It doesn't work that easily. At 40 having to start all over after putting almost half your life into something and he so easily moved on and gave everything he promised you to someone else? And that woman also to be pregnant after you always wanted kids but couldn't? Her actions I don't condone, but her anger, her pain, her sorrow, it's all valid and to be understood.

My take: Ladies!!! You see how Robert put himself first, his hopes, his dreams? Regardless of who paid for them? Especially when he found the woman he actually wanted to be with.. Ladies!!!! Learn from Robert, don’t drive yourself crazy, just put yourself 1st. Don’t be a d*ck about it but put yourself first..

Melinda's situation was 100% her fault. She was naive, delusional, possessive, abusive, lacked accountability & was too codependent on Robert.
Robert was 100% a user & opportunist. Robert was the worst type of user. He's the "well if that's what you wanna do" type of user. He knowly took full advantage of Melinda to supplement things he didn't have or didn't want to work for. Had Robert & Melinda broken up permanently back in college, he would've used Diana the exact same way he used Melinda.
When Robert saw Diana again, he did what all opportunist do. Took advantage of the situation. Robert played on Diana's past feelings for him. Diana didn't make Robert whole, heal him or build him up. She gave him, through the company, a large amount money. Which he happily accepted & spent. Sounds familiar? Wonder how long it will take before Diana realizes Robert's true character?

Only men think Robert is a gpod guy, it never fails. Happy to allow others to sacrifice their time and emotional labor thinking money is a worthy exchange. 😂

Money doesn’t heal emotional wounds, people. It’s easy to say get over it until you’re that person who wasted decades on someone else’s dreams and got thrown away as soon as they got it.

What he did wasn't small though and he wasn't a good guy. That man held on to her like a leech for years while she worked multiple jobs and lost her mother's house. Money can't replace that and he didn't even apologize to her. He just thanked her for her believing in him.

I LOVE THE WAY IT ENDED. LIKE. SHE COULDN'T LET GO OF HIM AND THE ⚓ WOULDN'T LET GO OF HER I ALSO THINK... THE MIN THAT WOMAN WALKED BACK INTO HIS LIFE AND BEING IN THAT POSITION HE SHOULD HAVE TOLD HIS WIFE . BECAUSE IT LOOKED LIKE ALL THESE YEARS HE WAS BOINKING OL' GIRL. ALSO, IT WOULD HAVE HURT LESS, I THINK IF THE RING HE DISCRIBED BUYING HER WAS NOT EXACTLY THE SAME AND THE BOAT NAME THE SPECIFIC PLACE. OFCOURSE DO GOOD STUFF FOR YOUR CURRENT BUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DIFF. YES HE BOUGHT THE HOUSE BACK AND PAID HER MONEY BACK WITH INTEREST...BUT SHE WASTED 18YEARS OF HER LIFE AND BROKE FOWN BREAKING HERSELF WORKING SO HARD TO SUSTAIN THEM BOTH.

Comments have been interesting on this one and have definitely opened my eyes to some interesting ideas and perspectives on this one that we missed while watching it.

Please please please don't be mad 😅😅😅 I'm gonna do my best to navigate a response to this. Firstly, I'm walking back on saying Robert was a good dude, at least not the entire time. This isn't black and white but very gray. A better statement from me would have been that what he did after the fact was good. It was truly a solid move. Does it give her back the 18 years she gave him? Not even close. But I still think the gesture is very meaningful especially considering the circumstances (don't attack me yet, let me get through this 😅😅😅😅😅). Melinda, justifiably, wanted a divorce. She wanted him out. Robert begged to stay and she wasn't having it. As far as Robert understood, Melinda wanted nothing to do with him ever again. Following this, he was literally homeless, living out of a shelter and just barely surviving. At divorce court, Robert still tried to work it out with her, but she stuck to her guns and said no (again, this is totally understandable - not faulting her at all). It wasn't until Diana gave Robert a place to stay and helped him work out a better deal that things turned around for him.

When he turned up at Melinda's office, she made it abundantly clear to him even then that she had zero interest in getting back together with him (again, justified, understandable). He respected this and was asking for nothing. He gave her a check for more money than most people will ever earn in a life time and her family house. Again, this doesn't give her back those 18 years of sacrifice, but it's a big move he could have just as easily not done and it would have been legally impossible to sue him (at least as outlined by the movie). It's also a lot more money than they would have had together had he taken the initial offer of less than a million dollars (which is what she would have preferred at the time).

Keeping in mind Robert's selfish approach to their mutual survival and just the overall health of his marriage: in his obsessive mind, he genuinely believed in what he was doing with blinders and he believed it would take them to new heights. He didn't cheat again and was squarely focused on the "golden goose" for both of them. He obsession blinded him from his wife's needs, his marriage and responsibilities. She also made the choice to stay through all that rather than leave sooner. So... please forgive me for those of you who hardcore side with Melinda... but I say this is on both of them. She stayed either because she was extremely loyal, she felt she was in too deep to ever leave (she never wanted her family to know) or had some kind of gambler's fallacy. Whatever the reason was, she stayed. He also made the choice to ignore all the obvious signs his wife was very unhappy and needed actual help along the way. He put Melinda through a lot in this regard.

Ultimately, both characters took actions that were harmful. While I understand Melinda's rage when she discovered what Robert was up to right after she got him that car (and it's very easy to understand where she's coming from), she chose to drive her jeep into his trailer. Legally, she would be held 100% accountable for that event. Not her partner who cheated right after generously being given a means of transportation. What he did was SUPER messed up. And what she did could have killed both Robert and Diana. Cheating is wrong, but murder is definitely not the move - refusing to speak to him ever again is the move. Her bodily damage in that car accident was symbolic and foreshadowing. She could have driven away in that moment but chose to try and hurt Robert and Diana, but only hurt herself but taking such an action. This is what gets her in the end.

The insane success Robert found came after Melinda made it abundantly clear their marriage was beyond over, after he was homeless and after he was rescued by Diana. If it wasn't for Melinda, Robert would have never been able to reach the first offer of almost 1 million dollars. And if it wasn't for Diana, Robert would have never been able to get the insane deal so he could gift Melinda the 10 million dollars and the house. She wasn't going to get the 18 years back, but she was given an opportunity most people don't get: a chance to start over without the need to work ever again. Whoever Robert moved on with was his business following Melinda's adamance that their marriage was over. It obviously is a big reason to hurt, seeing the person you were with go back with someone they cheated on you with, but he has that freedom to pursue that since he was divorced.

I get her rage and I get why those of you siding with Melinda hard core do. And I think the film is meant to be cautionary tale advising the audience members who are going through a tough time: learn to let go. This is a lesson I have struggled with and it's REALLY hard to get through that. Seeing the comments and the discussion this film has invited has made me appreciate this film even more. There is even more to extract from Acrimony than I expected upon initial viewing. It really makes you think and reflect.

And lastly, to any possible future Mrs. Koay that might be reading this... Melinda was absolutely right, fuck Robert. 🤣
