I have a problem, if anyone can, plz help me.
For me it's took too much time to complete a chapter. If I read 2/3 books for one subject it takes more time. I can't complete my syllabus before exam. I try to solve the maths quickly but I can't do that. It always took a long time to complete all the problems and example of the chapter. What can I do to complete chapter quickly and finish the whole syllabus before exam? 😢

Thanks for this! I'm in my first year of being homeschooled, and math has always scared me, but you don't really make it seem that scary and I guess that's some motivation, to see how it can be so fun for some poeple. I did like math some time ago, but being judged and forced to move on fast before I understood everything ruined it for me. Hope I can get back to understanding math enough to pass my matura exam well

Watching this because I just calculated the temperature of a potato and apparently the potato should be hotter than the surface of a sun.

I now have a headache pulsating from left to right

I, too used to pitifully distract myself from studying mathematics by worrying whether I had the "correct" pencil. Overall, though, I kept coming back to Pentel's P207 in 0.7mm. I still can't math very extensively, but I sure can show my work off nicely with that Pentel, boy.

I restarted my learning process way too late, and most of my knowledge is either incomplete or just not there.
But I want to learn some at the very least... any help?

If you want to really understand something try making a machine that does that function.
Example: All numbers are composed of a sum a carry.
In the early days of computers there was a thing call a half adder. It only calculated the sum.
A full adder would calculate the sum and carry. Say you had two electrical resistors which produced a voltage (sum).
Any over that voltage produced the carry(signal).

Im in my 30s and was rubbish at mental math. I didnt even manage to learn my times tables when i was 10 and still dont know all of them now. I always thought math was useless and what the point of learning it was. Anyhow. I watched a movie the other day and in it he said math is logic and that it helps you solve everyday problems unrelated to math. It opens neural networks etc. Anyway now im feeling like i missed out and want to learn everything. I might just start doing exam papers from the age of 7 onwards and see how i get on and learn from the most basic of levels. Also im in the UK, we never had a subject called calculus. What is it?

GPT4 Summary for the time poor:

1. Gather Your Supplies
- Pencil: Ticonderoga pencils are recommended for their quality.
- Pen: Some prefer doing math with a pen. The speaker mentions a specific but unnamed expensive pen known for its quality.
- Sharpener: Portable, non-electric sharpeners are convenient.
- Timer: To time your study sessions, a simple one using AA batteries is suggested.
- Paper: Unlined paper is recommended as it might help with conceptual thinking.

2. Pick a Quiet Location
- Study in a small, secluded, quiet room.
- Alternatives include college or public libraries which usually offer quiet environments.

3. Select a Math Book
- The choice of the book can be challenging, but the advice is to just pick one and start.
- For the purpose of the video, "Calculus" by James Stewart, 5th edition, is chosen as an example due to its widespread use.

4. Choose a Section to Study
- Opt for a topic you find interesting, but ensure it challenges you.
- Seek out topics or concepts you're unfamiliar with or find difficult.

5. Set a Timer for Study
- Aim for one-hour sessions.

6. Engage with the Content
- Begin reading and make sure to understand definitions by writing them down without referencing the book.
- Work through examples in the text independently.
- Solve the exercise problems at the end of each section. It's normal for some problems to be challenging or different from the examples in the book.

7. Reflection
- After the study session, reflect on your progress and the topics covered.
- Throughout the day, you might find yourself pondering over certain concepts or areas of confusion, which is normal.

8. Store or Discard Your Work
- You can keep your notes in a binder, stack them, or throw them away based on your preference.

9. Consistent Self-Study & Book Choices
- If a book or topic isn't engaging, you have the flexibility to switch to another book or topic in your next session.
- Owning multiple math books on the same subject can provide varied perspectives, making some concepts clearer.
- Example: Two differential equations books by Edwards & Penny and by Zill were mentioned, emphasizing the diverse coverage of topics.

Conclusion: Self-study allows you to delve deep into math topics at your own pace. Using this step-by-step process, you can make the most of your study sessions.

mathematics is not learned using pen and paper. it is learned by solving mathematical problems mentally. pen and paper are used only to write down the entire solution that is already present in the mind. working on the problems is done at all times and in all places in the mind alone.

- The first step involves gathering necessary supplies, such as pencils, a timer, a sharpener, and paper.
- Choosing a quiet and conducive study location, like a library, is crucial for productive self-study.
- Selecting a math book and section that interests you, yet challenges you, is advised.
- The recommended study routine involves setting a timer for an hour, focusing on understanding definitions,
working through examples, and attempting exercises, followed by reflection and potential book switching for subsequent sessions.

I still have the books we used at university for electronics engineering BsC in Amsterdam, some 20 years ago. Now (at 50) I want to do some remedial, including math, and specifically Signals and Systems, like Laplace, Fourier and Z-transformation. But also Calculus. I find these books very very dry. I would need books for self-study that are maximal intuitive. I am electronics engineer for the past 20+ years, and have a good sense for intuition. Also I would like to understand what am I reading. To memorize bunch of rules and tricks could very much help me solve some equations (and pass some tests) but that would not help me understand the essence (the why). So if you could recommend some books thet are intuitive and with more clear text with explanations I would appreciate that. Thanks in advance.
