So glad you made a video like this. I've seen so many katana stores that display fooling around with katanas as an advertisement and it upsets me so much to see.
Glad you are telling others to respect it 👏
I've always been taught that your Katana is an extension of your soul, so however you treat it is a reflection of how you treat yourself.
Also if you're currently in Nippon katana on the left side is correct, if you're in North America katana on the rite side is correct.
Getsuga tensho😂
ОтветитьQuestion: Can you recommend any reliable websites in which I can get a custom katana that can cut. My price range is around 200-300$. Thanks!
ОтветитьFor me it is a tool . Swords were tools used for battle and not some art to keep on the wall or stand . So i want to keep it that way and for me , no katana is higher then me as long I am it's master taking control of it , i rule the katana how i want
ОтветитьWhen I was taking pictures of my katana I accidentally stepped over it and I started saying "OMG I AM SO SORRY" Like it was a newborn child I was so embarrassed and humiliated😅
ОтветитьThat's a lot of rules, interesting
ОтветитьArigato Gozaymasu
ОтветитьCan you do seppuku as an example
ОтветитьTO ME PERSONALLY TO SHOW RESPECT TO ANY BLADES IS THE BEST PRACTICE.
ОтветитьLeynse.
ОтветитьThe same general rules apply to handling a firearm.
Goofing around with an "unloaded" weapon has been fatal.
I don’t know if someone asked this before:
I know you mentioned that using the katana as a cane is a no-no. But what about a sword concealed as a cane?
I goof around with my katana and often walk around the house with it
ОтветитьLame
Ответитьtaboo#2:"DO NOT use your katana as a cane"
me:"What in the name of flame breathing was kyojuro rengoku doing in mugen trin arc???"
Touching the blade can leave dirt, grease and salt and should be avoided.
If you must handle the blade for maintenance it should be wiped off afterwards.
Which leads to the biggest insult to the blade - Rust!
There's no greater insult to the swordsmith and the art of edged weapons than
the neglect of fine steel.
Cutting anything other than a mat can leave residue that can discolor, rust or attack the metal with acid or basic corrosion.
Blades should be cleaned and oiled regularly and before storage.
Having multiple swords, storing them near the ground or in humid salty air and not checking in on them can easily destroy them.
Some modern blades are stainless steel but for all others the higher the quality of the steel the greater is the tendency to rust.
Long storage may benefit from lots of oil or even light grease and wrap in wax paper to protect the inside of the sheath.
If you put a dirty blade in the sheath it will never be clean inside the sheath again.
Sadly I learned this through experience.
It's nice to have a cutting blade for duty and leave the nicest ones clean and minty.
🙏
ОтветитьMy grandpas btother was playing with a katana when my ĝrandppas dad glcame nack from japan annd it flew out of the sheeth and almost cut his head off and my great uncle (g pas
brother) freaked out
Who knew? crossing swords is bad in every culture! Respect!
ОтветитьI was at a medieval fair and someone touched my sword while I was wearing it, wondering if it was real. It was my iaito thank goodness, but I immediately reprimanded the person. I said, you wouldn't walk up to someone carrying a handgun and touch it would you. Very dangerous.
ОтветитьMaster what happened some of one trying to stabe you and you only have a katana what should I do?
ОтветитьHi, Shogo!
I stumbled on your channel after watching your videos with Seki-sensei. This one is great and I wanted to ask you: do you know the actual Japanese saying for "The true battle should be done within the sheathe"? As a kendo practitioner, I can only vouch for what you are saying: kendo, iaido and all the offensive martial arts are not studied to defend yourself in an attack. It is the total opposite and it sounds paradoxical to so many outsiders: you spend a lifetime mastering techniques so that you don't have to use them.
I was looking to get a katana, I will keep this in mind
ОтветитьAccording to rule number w I should not use the Katana to kill someone for me
ОтветитьUnnecessary pedantry like some of these is a great reason not to get into katana martial arts. A sword is a tool and the scabbard is too. They are replaceable.
ОтветитьFor using the Katana as a cane, I would also point out that traditionally the Saya is made of a somewhat weak construction (not designed to support a person's weight), the swords are razor sharp, steel is always stronger than wood, and the sword could cut through the saya, and slice off the majority of the hand wrapped around it.
A slick floor, and the katana could slip, says could be cut through, and someone could be very, permanently injured, (death might not be so easily achieved as a severe injury, but shouldn't be ruled out entirely).
I have heard of improper drawing of Katana, cutting through the saya, and very quickly and deeply slicing the hand.
Respect, of the katana, the craftsman, the martial arts, traditions, culture, history and spirituality should always be demonstrated also.
Kendo is better than Iaido.
ОтветитьVery interesting and very helpful information, as well. So, thank you a lot. I do expect to learn more about katana using rules and techniques from you.
ОтветитьTried to like the video. It won't let me over 44k I guess 🤷🏽♂️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️
ОтветитьTreat it like an AR15...or thereabouts
ОтветитьWhat’s the background music you use? It is so calm that I can barely sleep with it within 2 minutes
ОтветитьI have only a wakizashi, but I’ll certainly keep these rules in mind.
Ответитьbow to your sensai
Ответитьi would fail iado
ОтветитьI used to work in emergency medicine and rescue and... that first one is really super important. We get called to 'dude who was goofing around with a sword' accidents all the time.
ОтветитьImagine
Me:Can I get both of yours katana for some time
Friend: Ok
Friend 2:alright
Me : Santoryu Oni giri
Nice! Just found your channel. When I trained in kendo, they did their best to instill respect and rules in us; all the way down to tying your hime correctly. "No cowboy kendo." Pardon my avatar.
ОтветитьThat Rurouni Kenshin reference. 🤣
ОтветитьI will be in Japan from April 1 to April 14th and would love help with weight and length selection.
ОтветитьIf you hit one million subscribers, I would love to know where I could start to learn how you did that:)
ОтветитьTreat katanas with respect and care (I kinda damaged my ceiling messing with it 😢)this video taught me not to mess stupidly around with it I learned from the video
ОтветитьDomo Arigato!!🙏
ОтветитьMany thanks for this information, I'll be smarter in the future, this video has increased my already high respect for this weapon!
🦓💚
Very interesting. Some of those rules are very similar to rules that my firearm instructor taught me. They are both weapons and need to be respected.
ОтветитьVery interesting 🙏
ОтветитьMichigan?
You didn't go to u of m did you?
So… Iaido isnt for me. I change to a five year old so quick they would sent me to kindergarten for samurais.
