Behind the Frame (Short Horror Film)

The biggest critique (and it's absolutely accurate) is that the main character responds unrealistically to the things happening around her. Don't know how I didn't see that while we were making it but that was definitely a directing/script problem. Luckily, we took that criticism and tried to make sure that in our latest film we tackled it. Thanks for the feedback! If you want to see a somewhat intelligent character check Home Movies out!

There is some nice-ass tension in the final moments here. I was gonna say that the knife not disappearing when she tore the photos up was a plot hole, but then I realized she hadn’t torn all the photos up. Also, I personally actually thought her reactions to this all happening felt more realistic than her immediately running away, but idk, that might just be because I’m a weirdo.

Loved the short !!! Sadly she didn't follow her way out & paid dearly for it.

Y'know, I could be wrong here, and I am certainly watching your works all out of order during this binge attempt to get them all into my brain, but...

I have begun to like the idea that all your shorts featuring Hannah are, in fact, featuring the same character. Something has happened to this woman to strand her outside of reality with something that takes great joy in terrifying and killing her, over and over.

And that's a little trite, I know, but seeing this one after many of your more recent works turns that idea into something very compelling. I actually very much like her subdued reactions in this; I think a more "realistic" reaction would undercut the surrealism of the events themselves, and on that merit it stands wonderfully on its own.

But if this is "after" Home Movies, and Transfigure?

It means she's *getting better at this*. She does not react with open alarm because, while not fully conscious of it yet, she's already aware of how there's an internal logic to how these nightmares play out. She is savvy enough to decide not to risk conjuring the weapon, but goes back for it immediately when it seems like not having it would be a bigger risk. She carefully tests the rules of ripping the pictures rather than get them all at once (the one with her face on included). And she visibly figures out that it was a mistake to raise something that probably has her image on it to be level with her face, even before she notices the rope.

She's not close to beating it yet. But this particular achronological trip through the Clarkverse depicts her getting closer every single time. And I'm enjoying that very much.

(Also, forgive my fumbling analysis, but it seems like there's a huge overarching theme in your shorts about the nature of perception, and constantly asking us to question the idea that the footage we are seeing is telling us the "truth". The camera is almost a character in itself sometimes. So having noticed that before, and then having the punchline of this one be something that requires the camera's viewpoint to be an active participant in the same way Hannah has been so far? Very good stuff.)

Loved the part with the monster in the background. Very good, and original premise. I like the ending. It did not scare me, but I liked it.

My only criticism is, that she dosnt turn the picture with the inscription around. That would have been my first instinct. And if she had done that, she could have easily survived this.

From the instance with the first pic, I'd hightail it. U dont have to tell me twice.

VERY creepy!

I'd say gor the most part tha she wasn't dumb. She was logical with the weapon, and cuiosity killd the cat and all. My problems are when she does things in the least safe way, like ripping the picture next to the creepy closet or not flipping the magic pictures around. That and she doesnt sound scared, she soundd confused. Still a good, creepy short.

I had many photos developed in my life and i can guarantee that when you're going through the photos this rarely happens.

I agree, she could of been a better actress. Had I seen the future foretell in the pictures; and wondering where the heck that black box came from. Then I would be screaming, ripping up the pictures, and run out of the house. Lol!! That's what the girl should of done. But she looked stupid at the last picture, and got hanged! Zoinks!!
