Porsche is the original and to this day the king of limiting it's models performance so none of them out perform the beloved 911. Example, the Cayman is not only the best looking car they make but it has the best chassis and everything else for that matter Cayman vs 911 with same hp and set up the Cayman would be faster around a track.

GREAT REVEIW ! If people scoff and snub a 944 Turbo it means they have never had a good drive in one...or indeed owned one. I have owned x3 ...x1 when they were new a 944 Turbo S 250 bhp...err to all those people who think the mainstream 250 bhp cars are S versions...they are not. only x75 were produced in RHD in silver rose colour. Anyway...just to say what a great allround car...mile eaters...luggage space....refuned..and so so comfy and dynamic. GO BUY A GOOD ONE !! PS DO A TEST ON A STOCK 220 BHP CAR WITH ABS. These are actually a better drive as do not have MO30, which is too hard for UK roads.

Porsche did the same thing with the 914-6. They put a lower spec six in it to keep it from out performing the 911. It out handled the 911 anyway. And Porsche-files were snobby with it as well.

You can get outstanding exhaust sound with a Borla muffler and 3in pipes. Mine sounds very aggressive. Mine is a base model with standalone ECU and m45 Eaton super off a Mercedies, kept it German.

This is a genuine and reflecting persons sportscar. Whenever I see one on the road I know the driver loves that car and its design is amazing. It oozes quality and class in a way very few other cars do.

Put a 4-inch exhaust on it and your opinion on how they sound will change. I have the Lindsey 4" exhaust on my '89 turbo, and to my surprise, it sounds amazing!

I had a 944S back in the late nineties. Always said it was one of the best drivers cars ever made.

The 951 ((944 turbo) is possibly the best Porsche ever, in real world conditions and every day use, the 911 couldn’t hold a candle to the 944.

The 968 is my all time fave, if you can get your hands on one to review. Keep up the great work.

The 944, especially the S and Turbo models, are great cars. Finding a good one these days is a challenge. The problem is that they suffered from "It's not a 911" syndrome. Resale was not strong, and this allowed people who shouldn't own one to be able to afford one. This type of buyer was able to buy them, but was often horrified by the cost of maintenance, and therefore failed to do said maintenance.

Nice video and commentary. My 944 was India red with tan interior. A very nice looking car and well-balanced as you say. Being that it was naturally aspirated, I felt I'd have to open the driver's door, stick my leg out and help scooter it along. It really did lack torque. Of course, in the owner's manual there was a very keen diagram of the torque curve which showed the dual cam kicking in around 4000 RPMS. Actually, this was almost a marketing ploy. It seemed like forever to get to 4000 RPMS. Even worse while downshifting around corners the car sounded like a helicopter. I was told the bearings in the torque tube were shot. I will admit that every time I sat behind the wheel of this car I reminded myself, "Yes, this is my Poor Man's Porsche".

I own 2 of these beauties. I changed out the waste gate, upped the exhaust, upgraded the computer to state of the art components and next chip. The 1988 put out right at 300 WHP. I also owned a 911 at one time, but always went to my 951 for a fun drive. I drop the other 88 as a daily driver for many years.

Porsche did screw over the 944 Turbo. They could not have the trans out due their 911 baby.
