Dude seriously went to bat for his corporate employer like an absolute tool. The core argument of "we might not show many black faces because we're about rock n roll" is fucked on too many levels to unpack in a comment..

David Bowie is one of the few people from Hellyhood, I would love to have meet and be in a conversation with. David Bowie knew this prejudice MTV dude is only making excuses for their unethical racist behaviour, David Bowie did not agree with them one bit, the look in David Bowie eyes and face is enough to tell you he was disgust by their attitude. ( DAVID SAID IT CORRECT, ITS THAT KID PROBLEM IF HE DOES NOT WANT TO WATCH so call blacks on MTV, well said David)
David Bowie and Iman was the only couple confronting racism and calling them out, this is why they made David Bowie ILL. Safe Journey in the after life, I did pray for you like you ask, may Divine Heavenly Parents pardon you, grant you peace and safety 🌞✨

it was just a demographic issue at the time. genres had their demographics. even in the 90's when eminem endured alot of racism for being a white rapper and mtv focused on rock which was mostly made up of white artists.

Personally, I never liked MTV. It was overtly bigotry in nature the. The Jewish folks of mtv always worked that a way towards black people. They only want to make fools of us and exploit. Good at promoting black ignorance(black on black) and self degeneration. I never really liked MTV.

He keeps saying interesting. It's interesting that someone who uses cocaine and produces music pretends to have no idea what goes on in New York or LA as far as "featured talent " goes. It begs the question is bigotry being criticized for being immoral or for leaving too much money on the table in this situation. Black musicians weren't and aren't exactly known for their integrity. The excuse in this funny little conversation was never going to be that black artists don't like MTV. I feel like the criticism here is that Bowie would like to see these black music enter the industry and become corporate slaves like many other musicians especially for MTV. no context at all as to what black artists... just ' I've been watching to see if you had black on and they only come on in the wee hours of the morning '... that's not exactly a good way to present anything.

Isnt MTV run by white people? Why don't black people do there own channel? Racism is just self pity and not doing anything for yourself, like Muhammad Ali said "we should do our own thing, and not beg the white people to help us"

ehhhh, have to disagree with bowie on this one. MTV was playing rock music. It's main purpose wasn't to be egalitarian and to make sure every sect, creed, race, religion, skin color, etc etc felt included. They played what people were excited about. And when he mentioned they did a better job than radio at being open to everyone.. bowie had to then frown on that like "it's not me it's the other guy". Well, his point was: why are you picking on MTV.. radio gets a pass? You better believe Whitney Houston was bumping on MTV only 2 years later... because she was HUGE. That's all MTV cared about. If you're a popular group or artist... you get played.

Amazing. He's not virtue signaling. He's not selfishly gathering support by appealing to a already public issue. He noticed a problem, and is genuinely asking a question about it. He has an authenticity to his character most people lack these days.

Thats an excellent point that was relevant well into the 90s. MTV wanted to market themselves to white teenagers for whatever reason. They sidnt show much respect for hip hop until the mid 90's
