Old Delhi (the chaotic part) is anything BUT “poverty-stricken” — appearances can be deceptive — there are shops there that have been in business there for hundreds and hundreds of years — old money - lots of it! 😄

There are quite a few indo-islamic architecture examples in India, and the curved domes etc. are pretty typical of them. So in that sense, the Taj Mahal has a lot in common with them.
