People spend too much time bragging of a country's list of conquests, the size of the area controlled, the most people killed. However, Cyrus the Great comes close to actual greatness, rather than being merely a ruler of large tracts of land. His method of ruling, his policies, his administration, all were leaps forward in thought. This makes him worth knowing about. I'm disappointed my history class treated him as just another tick on the list of ancient empires. We study what we can, which is the records we have access to, so I understand why it often seems the world begins in only a few places. I hope our understanding expands as we compile our knowledge.
