How long do you keep them on this schedule of keeping them in the crate and bringing them outside to let them do their business as well as play with them?
Once they have learned where to go potty then do u continue to put them in the crate?

My Dutch Shepherd was going to the door on day 4. She’s 3 years old now and this training was an absolute lifesaver. The other big help was 100% supervision for the first 4 months and limited access to the household as trust develops. Those 3 things make having a puppy only positive!

Do you don’t let them play around in the house at all the first 5 days of crate training. Or stay strict the first 4-5 days.

The technique worked on my now 4 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Found the crate training technique about 4.5 years ago while reading about training new puppies. Try it, you will be highly satisfied if you are consistent.

I had my 10 week old for two weeks now, we crate trained him and he is happily sleeping at night for 7-8 hours, but we don’t crate during the day. I am so tired watching him constantly during the day to catch him before he squats and pees/poos.
Since my puppy is now used to running around the house, is it too late now to go back to this method?

We have trained 4 GSD puppies with this technique. most are 95% trained in one day. The other benefit is it crate trains them at the same time. When ever we have litters I always recommend this video specifically and GSM channel as general training education to new owners.

Help if I misunderstood please.

In the morning: you take them out for teetee, bring them in, play, feed in kennel for 10 minutes, take food away, wait 15-20 minutes then take them out again? So take them out twice in the morning?

I have a litter of GSD and they have their own pen but I am keeping one. Should I let him stay with his bro/sis until they all get picked up or should I bring him in the home now and start training him.
I just feel bad leaving one alone in the pen.

I just gotta say, me and my fiance just got our 8 week old gsp and following this video, we have had no accidents and our boy now goes directly to the door to let us know he has to go to the bathroom in only a few days. On day four now so hopefully we keep it up lol

Quick Question. I understand making the room in the crate just enough for the puppy to lay down...and you mention feeding them 3x a day and after about 15 minutes, any uneaten food is removed, and about 15 minutes after eating take them out for a bowel movement. What about water? It seems putting a water bowl in the crate only guarantees a wet blanket. Any suggestions?

My puppy is just over 7 weeks. We brought him home two days ago. Im sticking to the technique, but I feel terribly because he just cries and screams and howls. He will calm down and doze off for 10 minutes or so then wakes up screaming again. Is this normal? I know its only day two, but it has me worried he is too young to train this way yet. Should i keep continuing with the training? How long is too long to leave them crying?

We had our pup for 10 days (he is 13 weeks), he has come down with giardia and has some bad diarrhea. We did not do your crate technique but want to start it. He knows when he wants to go out ,but we have to read his behavior as to know when he goes outside. He only has an accident when the kids are on puppy watch. How hard will it be to get him to be fully potty trained. Also, we are going to train him to ring bells that hang from the door knob..

I'm living here in the Philippines, and I got a 4 month old GSD and I'm in the process of potty training him, he was kept in a large cage and was allowed to potty in his cage, so he still does it! I'm trying to get him used to using potty pads and slowly get him to go outside once he gets use to me.

Very similar to how ive been training my german shepard pup. He hasnt went in the house since the first couple days he arrived. He usually wines if he has to go, and i pick him up and set him down where i want him to go. It works well. Im going to continue doing this for a couple more weeks just to be safe.

Thank you for this video, we have an 8.5 week old GS puppy and hes going well! Crate training has been the hardest part because he cries then tries to bite the bars! Weve been trying to redirected his bitting to a stimulating toy or treat. But yes that part is scary! Do you lnow if yhat cage biting is common / lasts for a long time?

When do you take out your puppy out of the crate for good? Do you give them a trial run and see how they do? If the go to/po, do you put them directly back into their crate? Or do you take them to the designated area you want them to use for about 20 minutes and then back in the crate or directly back in to their crate?
