I really enjoyed this video. Thank you!
ОтветитьHey brady, Do we have an update on these guys?
ОтветитьPlease show us the latest generation of these off springs. Would like to see how they have developed.
ОтветитьDo you ever offer the calls for sale????
ОтветитьForgive the naive question, but where would I source a healthy, well structured wild carp? On line? In a lake/river? Or from japan?
ОтветитьThis is what I was wanting to try to do! This is not starting from scratch but certain info offering a a chance of getting a fresh start in genetics…
ОтветитьI’m trying the same thing here in Wisconsin.
ОтветитьWhen does generation 3 video come out? Been about two years now right?
ОтветитьThe gen1 female here almost looks like a hajiro
ОтветитьHow are these guys doing?
ОтветитьBeen pondering about this and researching more on viable species that can cross with koi. Any updates, were you able to get any good big fish now?
ОтветитьI love rewarchint this hoping for a update soon
ОтветитьI'm no fish expert admittedly, but can you explain the difference in size between the offspring please. Is it simply a case of first to the feeding?
ОтветитьThe black hybrid with white spots have a lot of potential, in the avatar the legend of Aang cartoon show there were 2 kois that look like the Ying and Yang in tancho koi stile, they are beautiful but theres nothing like the Yang one in the real world, maybe you could make it real if you could get the white Spot of the head more round like the tancho. Good luck!
Also it was a wonderful Idea the breeding
I want to buy the colored carp. Not the high quality ones. Just colored common carp for my farm pond. I hope they grow huge. Does anyone know how I can buy them?
ОтветитьDefinitely need more updates on these guys like f3 and whT not maybe strengthen the lines similar to when we selective breed heavy and breed back to stronger commona then back for stronger lines could be onto somthing
ОтветитьUPDATE: I successfully spawned a magoi female with males that include Dainichi Showa, Shiro Utsuri from Omosako, and Shinoda hi utsuri. The fry are now about 5 days old. We’ll see what happens. A lot of black fry but some yellowish color fry, too.
Have you (or anyone else) tried this cross of a common carp with either Showa or utsuri males? What was the result?
Can we get an update on this? Very interesting stuff :)
ОтветитьI got a “koi” from pets mart, along with another regular koi. I swear the first one is mirror carp/koi mix. The body shape isn’t even koi. More short and round like a mirror, or even bluegill shaped. Can’t find a pic even close to it online hahahah!
ОтветитьHow come I don't ever see blue, green, or yellow Koi?
Ответитьmongrels are great.
ОтветитьI remember you stopped many moons ago or maybe I was wrong. Glad to see you're back at it.
ОтветитьReal shame about the Sanke :( Sorry to hear it.
ОтветитьWhat do these look like now? I'm extremely interested in this project.
Ответитьgen 3 when?
ОтветитьIt was remarkable to see that first generation have the color and body style. It was a beautiful fish. I’m sorry for your loss, but I love the project, and I hope your fish continue to strive!
ОтветитьSo cool
ОтветитьHey do you sell any baby koi/carp hybrids they look nice
Ответитьdo you have any resources on koi genetics? i’m interested in dog genetics already and this seems really cool!
ОтветитьCrazy how much work went into these few fish.
ОтветитьWhat do you do with the ones you cull?
ОтветитьWho knew fish breeding would be so fascinating?
What do you do with the fish you don't keep for breeding purposes?
Leon brought me here, and I’m happy he did. Great content! Thanks for the insights! Very interesting.Guess Leon was the best investment in many ways. Thankful for your dedication to breed healthy, strong animals, investing all your time and energy in favor of their future, instead of just heading for the quicker results. Wish you all the best.
ОтветитьI hope it is all going the way you want it
Ответитьthis is like breeding a millionaire with an average joe
ОтветитьGod, I've been doing the same with guppies. I think I'm 4 to 6 years out from strong good colored Dumbo Mosaic Guppies!
ОтветитьEach snapshot of the fish reminds me off snapshot evidence from a crime scene. XD
ОтветитьThis project is fascinating! I love it when breeders of various species take into consideration the health and long-term viability of the animals; wish you saw it more. I'm really hoping we'll continue to see more updates on this line. :) Very sad about the loss of your original Gen 1 male though!
I know very little about koi breeding so I'm curious: why use 2 males for breeding? Is it a competition so there's a higher likelihood of success thing? A variety in genetic outcome thing?
I lost my favorite koi to a blue heron. I literally was watching it happen. I ran outside but it was too late.
ОтветитьThere is a small lake in the New Forest in England where someone in 1973 put imported Japanese Koi in with the carp. The fish outgrew the owners pond so he put them in the lake. We used to be able to fish there many years ago but due to new ownership the lake has not been fished for years. The quality of those fish and the colours are probably the best I have seen. The lake is spring fed so is crystal clear with natural Lilly's growing. Since the site has changed owners it is now fenced off so you cannot access it. I heard people got caught trying to steal the fish one night so its been fenced off ever since. A shame.
Ответитьid probably just pick the weirdest/coolest fish and keep it just because i like weird colored fish they are interesting
ОтветитьGreat let's great yet another invasive....humans are idiots.
Ответитьthought the common carp was 'carpio' as a species.. and the koi was developed from the 'rubrofuscus' lineage? would be interesting to see what the differences actually are...
ОтветитьDo the fish colors mean anything like taste wise or is it just a status thingy
ОтветитьI wish people knew how truly amazing this is. Beautiful fish. Well done!
ОтветитьIm glad to see im not the only one who does this! I was into koi 12 years ago
Me & my dad would go fishing & i would catch the biggest blackest carps by hand, and threw them into my koi pond, they would dominate all of the female koi and they would lay eggs all over the pond. i would take some eggs out and place them into one of my fishtanks & watch them grow. It was exciting i would sell my mixed fish at 3$ per 1 inch fish.
It's fascinating stuff even if you're not into koi, I love the thought of "breeds" being developed and perfected, my mothers family has been breeding Holstein cows for over 70 years, and now the new development is 'Girolando', a hybrid between holsteins and milking Gyr cattle that was first made in brazil, to impart the heat tolerance of Gyr to the more delicate but much better producers and milkers Holsteins. So this resonated a lot with what I've been surrounded by, and it makes a lot of sense. Hope you keep updating us in the future :D
ОтветитьI saw some interesting patterns that you just dismissed. Crossing in new genes provides an opportunity to creat new patterns and enhance existing.
ОтветитьWhat do you do with the wild types and extras that you don’t use?
Ответитьare you jewish
