this happened about 90 min from my house. I fought alot with my mom when i was a teen, but we became best friends when i got older, this is so sad, my mom has passed away years ago, i miss her. I was suprised she didnt get a longer sentence.

Why do women get such little time in prison?? If that was a 15yr boy he would get at least 20yrs
Its bullshit

She knew what she did was wrong because she tried to cover it up with the phone call. She was pretending to be her mother.

Our “Justice System” is sick. She murdered her mother in the most brutal manner, depriving her mother of life for all eternity; yet the mother’s life is only worth 15 years in a prison that is going to provide the murderer with all of her needs. The message to criminals is clear: if you murder someone, the worst that can happen to you is that you spend 15 years in prison. I remember when I lived in Olathe, Ks, a jilted high school kid hid in his ex-girlfriend’s closet with a knife. Afterwards, he said he knew that he would have to “spend 15 years in jail”. That was 25 years ago. Last I heard, the young school girl he murdered is still dead. How is he doing?

She prob did not get along with her mother. That was a ruse to get her a lighter sentence, in my opinion.

I just don’t understand why Sidney really killed her mother or why she was failing in college. There has to be a reason behind it.

Hard to believe a daughter will kill her own mom just to cover her problem. She is so terrible as a person and evil as a daughter.

Oh, I thought the mother, hit her in the head with the fryin pan for gettin bad grades, but the daughter got bad grades & hit the mom?! How does that make sense? I beleve demons become involved when humans act stupid like that. That makes no sense. I remember back in the 80's if I got bad grades, I got the dang fryin pan!

Acted completely rational after the dirty deed. Had she manipulated her parents prior to college? She believed in a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

WOW, 15 years .... she got away with murder! Not guilty by reason of insanity should not be allowed as a defense. Rather a finding of insanity should be viewed as aggravating circumstances in sentencing, not mitigating circumstances, once guilt or innocence has been established. An insane criminal represents a far greater threat to others.

The father knew about her flunking out and daughter was able to discuss it with her father rationally but not with the mother. Not that it changes anything you concluded, Doc. But the contrast in daughter's relationship with two different parents is striking and would seem to indicate some kind of pathology relevant to the case.
The above is from a layman with a BA in psychology ("A little knowledge is a dangerous thing." -Pope). Would love to hear what you think the dysfunction with mother but not wuth father is/was.
Thanks, Doc

So horribly tragic... There are a lot of reasons why this happened and we don't know the relationship between her and her mother but I believe the term psychopath might be the correct diagnosis given the amount of deception and manipulation even after the taking of her mother's life.

Jesus Christ! I know how scary it can be to talk to your parents about having failed at something, it’s actually really terrifying to me because the house I grew up in was incredibly strict. But to murder your mom rather than deal with the consequences is fucking nuts
