It's creepy. They're right beneath him and he still can't hear their screams for help. It's like when they were normal size and they still didn't pay attention to their kids. He doesn't know close he came to killing them and never knowing it.

When I watched this on VHS, I'd press the pause button repeatedly and draw the individual frames during the shrinking sequence. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was learning animation by doing so.

This is still incredible years later its amazing how they made this movie in 1989 and with out crummy cgi technology
