I say let Hollywood have cocaine like they did in the eighties. There are some crazy movies from the decade because they were willing to take a chance back then. Now companies are too greedy to take a chance.

HP wasn't really a franchise. It was a series to go with the original series of books. It was only when HP became a franchise - with Fantastic Beasts - that it failed.

I've been a Harry Potter fan since I was 10 y/o in the year 2000 and when they announced that there were going to be 5 movies about that universe I was beyond happy and exited, Fantastic Beast 1 I absolutely loved, I think it's a beautiful movie but it breaks my heart to see how much of a mess the other two movies are 🥲 at this point I would not be mad if they canceled the other two they were planning 😔

As someone who honestly didn’t read the books, but has had secondhand knowledge of book content for years and has watched the movies both the original, and the prequels, I liked Fantastic Beasts more than the original Harry Potter saga.

HP1: so charming and underrated in its world-building
HP2: more of the same, Chris Columbus deserves more credit than he usually gets
HP3: I still find the tonal shift slightly too jarring for its own good but this is undoubtedly the most well-made film in the series
HP4: a mess, like the book IMO, but overall the positive still outweights the negative
HP5: suffers from cutting major scenes from the books but the acting is top-notch all accross the board
HP6: the weirdest one, but I actually enjoy how quirky and different they made it
HP7: my personal favourite, I love the rythm and the character interactions so much
HP8: a bit bloated, but as satisfying a conclusion as you can get

FB1: I am still fond of that one; as a self-contained film, I'd put it on the level of most HP films
FB2: a disaster of epic proportions, only dwarfed by the fact that The Last Jedi was released a little less than a year before; cinema was in full damage-control
FB3 : never bothered

Politics notwithstanding......i disagree that she is a great writer. Not a fan of her weiting style; but, she did make a good story. She also got better at the style as she went on in later books.

I dont think the franchise is dead. the success of Hogward Legacy clearly show that there are still people who love Harry Potter. the only problem is that JK seem to no longer realized the reason why people love it in the first place. I dont think she will ever become broke. Hogward Legacy, Universal Studio, and every merchandise from Harry Potter will always keep her rich. but I dont think we can expect any more great story coming from JK. she simply caught lightning in the bottle, and can not re create the miracle a second time. let hope many others creative mind will be able to get the right to expand the franchise in her stead.

we just forgive the harry potter stories so much, because when we read the books in an age where we all waited for this hogwarts letter and there was no smartphones or internet to make us realise how bland of a character harry and voldemort are. and we dont want to even start about the massive plotholes that appear because Rowling makes up things she needs to progress the story without checking if it would conflict with anything in the past books.

Fantastic beasts is a standalone and cant cash in on broken childhood dream nostalgia and people see it what it is. i was always as old as harry in the books and i lived in the magic world through his eyes, even with a flawed story. and thats how harry potter worked in the first place

im not hating harry potter, but even as a kid i pointed out much nonesense in the books to my friends.

Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban was the best film in the series.

My favourite book though was the Goblet of Fire.

Such a shame how Rowling’s decisions for fantastic beasts and cursed child, post deathly hallows movies, have ruined the franchise

Honestly as smn on neurodivergent spectrum Newt is such a important character for me I know many people with autism, adhd etc who feels the same way about him. The problem is Fantastic beasts and where to find them wasn’t the smartest movie but it worked but than they tried to make out of it another Harry Potter thing and that’s were it flopped. Newt (and animals) is Fantastic, the rest of the series isn’t

I think Grindelwald's arc shouldn't coincide with Newt after the first movie. Newt's story should've ended on the first film and introduced Dumbledore instead as the main on the second movie. Bringing back Jacob on the second movie was so forced. He had a good ending on the first movie.

Crimes of Grindelwald was very very messy with waaaay too many plot threads. I genuinely don't know what Grindelwald's crimes are supposed to be. I don't know what he wants (apparently to stop the holocaust, which could have led to interesting discussions, but didn't)
Secrets of Dumbledore was even stranger to me.
Story beats got picked up and dropped with no payoffs (werewolves in HP I could sort of forgive, as it was a bit background), and I still don't know what anyone actually wants

How did Harry Potter's finale conclude the series in a satisfying way. The blatant racism towards other races, viewed by the wizards as inferior was never addressed by the finale. Voldemort was defeated, sure, but the political and social environment that lead to him gaining so many radically racist followars was not dismantled. None of the social issues of the wizarding society were properly addressed.

Yea I don’t really understand why newt was even in the movie. Movie 2 was clearly about Grindelwald don’t understand why we saw newt so much and movie 3 was about dumbeldore and Grindelwald why do we need newt the squib and his brother they were distracting. Credence, Grindelwald, dumbeldore was the only lead characters that the movie should have focused on ( they should have recast miller, they did it to Depp after all and he was innocent)

The FIRST Fantastic Beasts movie was good. I really liked Newt Scemander, it was nice to see a Hollywood movie that doesn't have a stereotypically "masculine" man. It was a good spin-off movie, and they shouldn't have made a sequel... especially because the sequel wasn't even ABOUT Fantastic Beasts, it was about Dumbledore.

there's a lot of things in this video i don't really agree with and that's fine but to put in an entire chapter talking about JK and how she's affected the franchise with the vague notions of her politics is pretty lame and shitty. she's a major transphobe why can't you just say that? "she can't stop talking." just add "about trans people" at the end of that sentence

The numbers don't lie. Show Biz Galore said: Total salaries for all the principles was only $4.5 mil. (Although JD made a cool 10m) FB3 cost $200m and grossed $404m. The avg. marketing budget is 50% of costs. So, half of $200 is $100 million profit. $100 million = awesome. So saying that $100m profit is failure is a bunch of male buffalo chips.

I honestly really liked the first Fantastic Beasts and would put it on par with some of the Harry Potter films. The sequels really dropped the ball and it’s such a shame cause they have many good ideas and the story had great potential. I think the issue is Rowling doesn’t truly understand the difference between writing a book and script. I actually read the Crimes of Grindelwald script and on paper it’s a fascinating story but it does not translate well to film cause Rowling didn’t have full understanding of the medium (some of the blame should go to David Yates as well). Also, the fact that Newt, his brother, this random muggle and Illvermory professor were responsible for defeating Grindelwald is a such a far-fetched idea. You would think these characters would be mentioned in the Harry Potter series but apparently not.
