It weirdly reminds me of the scene in 1883 when Shea comforts Elsa after her boyfriend died. It radiates the same kind of comforting energy.

As a white person, white shores sounds like paradise. I want to go there and ditch this place forever.

I cry everytime I see this without fail. I am 26 years yet I burst into tears after this scene ends. It's so attaching and visceral

My father and I loved watching these before his time came and I had to say goodbye.
I watch this and I tear up because I wanna believe that this is heaven in reality. I like to imagine my father, my grandfather, my uncles, all my fallen ancestors and my loved ones, just standing on the shores, waiting for me. I hear them in my dreams. They wait for me, calling me in my dreams “one day, you will return to us. We will see you again. And we will be together again. All of us” I miss them. I wait for my time to come, where I take that journey to see my family in the End.

Billy Boyd's expression of awe and wonder, with a hint of anticipated joy, is spot on!
And Ian McKellans' gentle encouragement turns a point of terror into tranquility for the young hobbit.
As one who expects to see those celestial shores leading to gates of pearl, I can so relate to this!

I know anyone here is a fan, but just acknowledge how Gandalf creates sunch an emotional scene with literally 60 seconds.

Watched a lot of movies, of all of the scenes this has been the most comforting to me. Ever since I have been a kid this scene in particular has stuck because it makes all the grief and sorrow I feel seem like its worth it.

Such a beautiful moment.

The way Sir Ian, Sir Ian, Sir Ian delivers this gives me chills every time

if i was holding that damn door my life would depend on it i would literally use all my strength to hold it but at the end it looked like it was about to break i wish there was a exclusive extended part so we could see what happened

This will be my favorite part of any movie. This along with the music just tops everything. It's so beautiful.

One day a movie will be made about the Silmarillion. And that movie will have to open with this music. Just this music. Then, a light in the dark. And then the intro will begin to tell the story of Eru and the Valars and the creation of Valinor and Middle Earth. This is my hope.

Earlier this year I have laid my 17 year dog to rest and my aunt passed away today, this video has helped immensely and will continue to do so into the future

I literally have watched the trilogy dozens of times over the years. and this scene here is in my top 5 moments. absolute perfection, that really hits home. all thanks to Sir Ian. masterpiece!!

I just got a tattoo of gandalfs staff with this quote around it in elvish, one of my favourites for sure, “white shores, and beyond a far green country and a swift sunrise”

How tf can pippin hear that whispering over the sounds of battle?

I don't don't quite understand what Gandalf mean here. When he says you will see white shores and all that, that refers to a physical world? He is a spirit and don't dwell in the physical world originally. I think he only refers to all living things that die in Midgard only?

Powerful words to hear right before you die.

This scene is beautiful for another reason though: "White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise". Tolkein is describing England, his home. He is writing as a veteran, a man who has seen the indescribable horrors of war, and to a man at war there is only one place comparable to heaven: home.

But what happens to orcs when they die?

I love how he breathes in and smiles after he describes the west, as if he's picturing it in his head. It makes it feel like a real place

I love how the music that plays in this scene is the same as when Frodo leaves for Valinor, fitting because Gandalf is referring to his home here.

This is what I want quoted at my funeral.

I take serious comfort in this line. Knowing that no matter who you are, who you love or hate, whatever your creed or colour or story, it culminates with the path.

To everybody who has lost somebody they dearly love, this scene hits deep...

Gandalf’s words here have always brought me such comfort. I suppose that was the point. Even in the midst of impending death, he could help others like that. I’ve not read the books for a long time, so I don’t remember if this was an actual quote, but it has helped me all the same. That silver glass and those white shores truly don’t seem so bad, one day we must all go there. Who better to help us along the way?

Last weekend, my Grandmother ended the final page in the story of her 96 year life.

Having to deal with the news of her death left a black hole in my heart. But I come to this clip to have comfort knowing that the journey does not end there.

I'm gonna miss you so much Granny.
