The folks who argue that the Temple was somewhere else tend to argue from maps and writings, not from first hand knowledge. Also, the fact that the Dome of the Rock is built where the Temple MUST be built shows that the solution to the problem is in God's hands. We can speculate, but He alone controls the details.

I think that synagogues, the unity of Israelis and warm family relationships with religious traditions perform much better Jewish than any sort-of-pagan-Roman-era temple. One can roast smoked lambs and coats on their backyards of owns anytime want and there is no need to mix money exchanging into religious rites. Of course Muslims have occupied once holy places but I am sure that God's will is still you shall not kill. Once missile from Iran may destroy mosques of Holy mountain but some things are better leave to hands of God and keep history as it is.

For those who miss nostalgia about ancient dust, one can always make a virtual models and update religions into modern standards to perform better in reality and normal life.
