Could Northern (Anglo-)English be Older than Southern (Anglo-)English?

In this video, I explore why linguists usually don't try to make systematic comparisons of dialects based on how conservative their pronunciation is. I use the examples of Cumbrian (a dialect of northwestern England) and RP (the standard dialect of the southeast).
