I’m all for mandatory training and a “cool off period“, but five years? Are you serious? I’d say 1 year max and then after owning a rile for a year, let’s them buy a handgun. Russia could probably benefit from an armed population right now, if you know what I mean.

Gun ownership is much better in America then Russia. At least you can still have a gun so it’s still great. Thanks for this video

Hahaha. You can have a 10 gauge pump action shotgun full of slugs...but not a single shot .22 rifle for 5 years...which to me is a glorified bb gun. I have sliced a hardwood table in half with a single 10 gauged slug. I failed to kill a rabbit I was hunting with a direct head shot with a .22. It was messed up....it wobbled around like it was drunk....but the round did not penetrate. And it did not penetrate at near point blank range when I tried to end it's suffering. I had to stab it and the way I did it apperently ruined the meat (according to my hunting partner...not sure he knew what he was talking about.) Now a better way to ruin the meat would be to have shot it with a 10 gauge slug. There would be nothing left. Even buckshot...which I hate...would have you pulling out shot for hours. At least in Russia they let you own fire arms. So many countries are just like...nope. I do like the age thing...5 years with a weapon before being able to own a more 'deadly' one. Maybe they should start with the .22.

I guess Americans and Russians aren’t much different after all it sucks you all can’t have a handgun very easily we have it made tho in the states I can still get machine gun it’s going to cost an arm and leg but it can be done same with suppressors. I find it funny everything is a hunting carbine over there. Over here everything is a rifle even an rpd or m60 if the rifle is shorter than rifle length which I believe is 16 inches it’s considered a pistol. Same with extended mag rule we can have them but if you’re caught walking around concealing a Glock with a stick mag you’re screwed

There was just as school shooting few weeks ago, Putin said he is going to crack down on gun ownership laws... so this interview may need to be refreshed soon.

whats interesting is that army is compulsory for all Russian males (with some exceptions) so pretty much all of them have high quality training and tens of thousands of rounds shot when someone else paid the bill (taxpayer), still they require you to wait to purchase rifles. I think the idea is not training, I think the idea is that if you didnt go crazy and use your shotgun for bad stuff in the 5 years you are much less likely to use your rifle for bad. And making differentiations between .22 and 7.62 etc its just too much headache. Pistol ownership being prohibited likely has to do with crime, its much easier to commit crime with a handgun, so might as well remove them from the streets.

Suppose somebody emigrated to Russia. Once he becomes citizen, could he import the weapons he owned in his home country, bringing them in as permitted?

The pistol stored at the club is similar to UK gun law. Although if you have an appropriate license, and an appropriate safe that's been verified as suitable by the local constabulary, then you can have your own rifles, pistols and shotguns at your own home if you wish. I think there is another exception for practical shooting shotgun shooters, which has a magazine capacity that would normally be in violation of UK gun law, where the maximum capacity for a shotgun is 2+1. So I think those might have to stay at the club. I'm not 100% sure though.

It may sound like a lot of freedom, but don't get excited. Shotguns are relatively easy to get. Rifles are not. I lived there for 26 years and I knew only one person who had a rifle. That guy was a hardcore hunter - he would bring a deer or an elk to home every month. I always had an impression that you need to prove that you are an active hunter in order to get a rifle license.
