That pushing down part ... I remember it from the time I built THIS PC like 8 years ago... and now I've got a brand new intel chipset to play with but ...I took one look at the socket on the board and almost fainted, hahaha. It's funny because, I've done this before, but I remember that... metal... pin sound and it feels like you just flushed a few hundred dollars down the toilet every time.. even if you never did. It's a horrible sound, I don't understand why it's even a thing. The nature of it's origin I suppose, has a lot to do with that... (and how expensive / delicate it is) ...knowing it's made to do that, somehow doesn't alleviate my uh... my problem... this is SIGNIFICANTLY worse than nails on a chalkboard. The first time I heard it, I wanted to cry, hahaha.... I just thought "...oh no..."

Just as a heads up, the instructions for my CPU said to take the plastic cover off before fastening the lid, and the lid goes down far better that way.

Thanks a lot. Definitely thought I bought an incompatible cpu for the mobo socket with how much force I needed to apply. You saved me a ton dude.

The retention lever is hard to press down I aligned triangle and notches and also wiggled it a bit to make sure it was in there not hard very softly

How tight should my heatsink be? I was told if it is too tight that you can bend the pins on a LGA 1200 board.

Thanks for telling the crunch sound when locking the cpu is normal 😅. When I installed my intel cpu it made 1 click sound when locking. When I locked it completely it made another loud click and that’s when the protective cover fell of so I got a bit worried whether my computer would work.

I made a mess of first motherboard, and on getting 2nd still not sure if the cpu is OK my son reckons it is after checking it, now waiting for him to place the cpu in a new motherboard. I honestly cannot see the arrow on the cpu and was looking for it. My son has his own life, but have to wait for him as too stressed to try it again.

Yes of course, once you close the levers, then open them again, pull out the CPU and enjoy the crooked pins.
Socket 1700 and its closing are badly designed at the factory. Half of the motherboards end up in complaint services.

hi i have one doubt
i removed the cpu cover without lifting the metal frame up ( the metal frame was open but just not lifted up ), then i lifted the metal frame up then i saw the pins on socket and i saw something scratchy between pins i dont know that is bend or what but i installed cpu then clossed the metal frame completely .
so the question is does the cpu cover can touch the pins of socket at any condition if it is installed in the metal frame?
it it cant touch then the pins are bent out of the box i guess

i am so happy that intel cpu's no longer have pins. especially since the cpu is usually more expensive than your motherboard. but i wish that the motherboard could have a format like the intel cpu where it also does not have pins. imagine if the motherboard had a flat surface format like the intel cpu and the two surfaces just had to be flush in order to make a signal connection? that would be sick and save on e-waste.

There is about 0.5-1 mm gap on 1200 which is extremely high comparing to literally zero on 1366 10 years ago.
What side to align is better?
