Nen gets even more complicated then even that. According to the manga and the anime there are multiple Nen disciplines. Shingen-ryu is just one of many ways of training in controlling aura. Of course we don’t know what the others are, but it’s crazy to think that Killua and Gon could have had different training if they found another Nen teacher💀

Brilliant video! The way you explain all the small things has answered a few questions I had but with this power system I never understood something. I have watched HxH but was always a bit confused on one thing, if you can put limitations on something in order to make it stronger can't you do a whole bunch of bullshit just before you die in a losing fight and always take the other person with you? For example Gon who sacrificed everything to beat Pitou. He didn't train that ability beforehand so everyone must be able to just bust out OP abilities in a losing situation. If I'm fighting someone and see no chance of winning I'd just make an ability that only works for 2 seconds, specifically on that person, kills me after I use it and I have to chop off all limbs to activate it, but it insta kills the opponent. Can't everyone do that?

funny thing about kurapika. only 1 of his 5 chains is spider specific and that is "chain jail" which puts its target into zetsu and if used on anyone not a spider kurapika's "judgement chain" will kill him. there are 2 others that are kinda restricted. the judgement chain can not be used unless kurapika has red eyes and the one that appears only appears in the manga forces him into emperor time (i am not 100% sure this is a restriction and it could simply be an activation requirement)

If I can use nen , I would use it to manifest a stand somehow xD

So my only question then would be can you change the restrictions that you put into place. Like with Kurapika can he then change his restrictions to work against other things and not just the Phantom Tropue.

Franklin is an Emmiter he shoots his aura in a bullet shape form, he doesn't conjure bullet like objects.

I would definitely see Nick as a Conjurer, just because of the deep level of knowledge it generally takes to become a high level one

No, transmutation trunsmutes aura. Transmuting is converting one thing into another. So i dont think theres any difference between killuas lightning and the real thing. Same for conjuration.
Thats why i feel like transmuters have an edge on conjurers.
And self imposed rules are not specific to conjures.. any nen user can make a contract with rules to multiply nen power

Kurapika’s chains are so effective against spiders because if he uses them on anyone else he will die. Putting the restriction of death is the ultimate boost in a Hatsu. That’s why it’s so effective against Spiders.

I love this system it so detailed yet open for new stuff that still follows the rules but come from unexpected places just like life.

I had ignored HxH for such a long time cause I didn’t like how gon looked but after watching it it’s honestly one of if not the best shounen I’ve seen and the entire time I was watching it I was saying “This is just a better naruto wtf”

Anyone can use conditions and restrictions. While perhaps conjurers have the most to gain from them, they are just a basic part of nen. For example Chrollo's specialist hatsu has a ton of these.

I think hxh would be number 1 if they finish smh

I've been watching this with my fiance, it's her first time watching HunterxHunter and it's her favorite anime now

Some others mentioned that restrictions aren't limited to just Conjurers. Every Nen user has some form of restriction on their ability, even if it isn't explicitly labeled a restriction by anyone. For instance, even Gon's Ja-Janken has the condition of the wind up that puts him in danger. If Gon did away with that, his attack would be quicker, but much less powerful.

Ultimately every ability has some restriction on it, some of which can be flexible like Morel's Deep Purple. While others not so much. And then Nen abilities can be made much stronger if the user is willing to make a sacrifice for it, or if they put something on the line if they were to break a condition. So Kurapika putting his life on the line to ensure his Chain Jail would work on the Phantom Thieves is one example.

I think what is most interesting about the Nen system is that unlike most systems, the possibilities seem endless. The amount of creativity that the system provides while making full sense within the world is crazy. Take Chapter 7 Bankruptcy for instance,. You hit the opponent and lend them some of your aura, they get put into aura debt and can't deal any damage to you until they pay back all of the aura you lent them, but every 10 seconds the interest compounds the debt and it makes it harder for them to do anything. So while they are expending their aura while fighting you, the debt spirals out of control and they "bankrupt" which forces them into Zetsu (near defenselessness) for 30 days.

Most other series would only be able to do something like this as magic. In HxH, it's just a feature of Nen, which is more of a spiritual type of energy as opposed to something like Ki which tends to seem more tangible. I mean anybody can see Goku using a kamehameha. What's the difference between that and a Galick Gun? They just seem like different colored beams. In comparison, Nen abilities are all varied, and even ones that are similar in nature or goal have different restrictions and execution to them.

And Nen also tends to be inherently dangerous. The aura that characters exude can hurt others merely by just touching them, especially if the aura carries any malicious or malignant emotions. Even though the characters are strong, it could be argued that really they are mostly relying on their aura itself to fight. Even a strong nen user is basically defenseless without their aura, which is why the initiation brought up in the Heaven's Arena arc was so significant. Had Gon and Killua kept trying to go through the hallway that Hisoka was using hatsu on, they could have been seriously maimed or crippled like Sadaso and the others were, or they could have died. Then later on in the Greed Island Arc, when Bisquit was explaining Ko, she threw a very slow punch at Gon and even though he was defending himself, he still got knocked back quite far.

Meh, I prefer reiatsu. It's more straightforward. If you have more or yours is more dense than your opponents then you're the stronger fighter. And if this difference is big enough you can overcome any hax abilities or even straight up force your opponent into submission simply by releasing your power.
