used a game genie today. was gaming with my 4yo son and the cheats are more like accessibility options for us.

Cheating in classic games from the 1980s and 1990s should be all about training, skipping the easier parts so you can get good in the harder parts, then you turn off the cheats and you have the knowledge and skill to beat those games without cheating, call it "cheatraining".

This and TerminalMontage's video really make me want to see the Game Genie referenced as an actual character more often.

I had one for NES mostly used for megaman games before I got good at them

I think the slyest reference has to be The Genie doing a Homer Simpson impression, considering Dan Castellaneta, the VOICE of Homer, would replace Robin Williams as Genie briefly rofl

I forgot that Platypunks made their debut in Dragon Quest IV. I always associated them with VII.

Nester is too cool and too good at games to ever use a Game Genie.

Yeeeah I’m not gonna lie I used the crap out of game genie. Battletoads was way too hard back in the day. Used infinite lives, a super high jump and still couldn’t beat it cause it glitched on that one motorcycle like stage. Eventually I just cheated and went to the final stage and eventually beat it. I would one day get my revenge of beating the game without stage skipping and just raw skill through the whole game. What a chore but it was worth it to say I beat it. One of the hardest games I played to this day.

i would love this as a series where they get sucked into the games they play and game genie is always there to help him

As a kid, I was always very bad at games. I still really wanted to experience the stories though. So my parents bought me an action replay. I had so much fun hacking games and just fooling around with the different cheat codes.

Imagine if Nester had his own movie.

I mean, given how many of the games listed were made HARDER simply to extend their game time by the devs own admission. Especially when shipped over to the US where rentals were a thing. That's why those who played it will never forget those stupid monkeys in the Lion King Game on Gen/SNES. They literally made them not work right to make it so you couldn't beat the game in a few hours.
