The only things I have had any success doing on pop os was getting steam to run and removing two repositories. I broke handbrake yesterday trying to rip a dvd. It didn't seem to want to read the source properly. I tried reading a guide which I think was building handbrake from scratch. It couldn't read the dvd then. Oh well. I can always reinstall Linux again. Pop os was the only distribution that seemed to work with my gigabyte b550 auros pro motherboard and ryzen 5 3600. Linux demands much more knowledge than Windows 10. Windows is just download, click setup and your off and running. I don't have a clue how to install anything if it isn't included in the distribution in Linux.

1.5 years later, this deserves a refresh, as much has happened (Proton, Vulkan, VFIO/KVM and gpu passthrough tech, etc.)
Manjaro is a fairly sweet compromise if you like to be close to the cutting edge but not on the bleeding edge (which seems to be Arch, lately)

You're awesome. Keep up the good work. We are a year later and if he things have improved with Linux and gaming some more vids would be sweet. I run manjaro and mint currently. I can't wait for linux to really get an equal footing. I wonder if googles new arcadia will improve the linux gaming experience as well.

Hey there ! Could you help me out figuring out whats wrong with my Manjaro install. My native linux steam games are running quite bad, especially CS GO (100fps difference when compared to WIndows). I have the latest Nvidia driver installed (430.40) and have vulkan libraries installed. Appreciate any help. Loving the videos so far !

I HIGHLY recommend upgrading to Ubuntu 19.04 series. It has a recent enough kernel to run AMD cards well, up to date Mesa drivers.

Fighting the good fight! There are too many reasons why I don't like relying on windows (privacy?), I can't wait for linux to be as efficient as windows, such that I can take full advantage of my hardware.

I subbed after your collab with Linus. Do more! it was dope. I am trying to get into gaming on my linux box. Thinking of some serious hardware investments in linux.

In my old laptop I have an AMD A6 4400m with Radeon HD 7520G which is an APU. When launching native games such as war thunder, my entire OS just crashes. But on my desktop with the Radeon rx 460, everything runs perfectly. What should I do?

Any plans in the future to do a Linux gaming video on a laptop e.g. xps 13 dev edition comes with ubuntu and has thunderbolt 3, so would an egpu thunderbolt 3 setup work easily? Or is it gonna be a bit of a faff about?

Should have discussed more about Nvidia vs AMD and their current driver issues. Also Vulkan and OpenGL/DirectX.. These very important for new linux people, especially if they planing on building a gaming rig. Oh and surprised you got that nvidia card working on first try, rng jesus must be with you 8P

Asking opinions, would the fine folks here feel comfortable running a Vega 64 as opposed to say, a 1080? I understand that there is a performance gap between them, but would I notice it playing games at 1440p@60hz on a single monitor?

Hello, How would this work on older hardware like i7 3770 & Maximus IV Gene3 MB & AMD Radeon HD7990 & 16GB of DDr3 1600MHZ Ram ??? Plus whats the best Linux OS to start with as I started using Ubuntu a couple of years ago but got ticked off with it as I couldn;t find help at that time to workout my issue's.

I don't game much (so why am I watching this?) ...but I do run two GPUs for a wall of monitors on my workstation 9 total. I run Linux primarily and with my GTX 970s I had lots of issues.. nvidia was artificially limiting the number of monitors from the proprietary driver and.. nouveau crashed KDE a ton. Gnome, MATE, Cinnamon and XFCE all wouldn't display 9 monitors.. crash on boot. I distro hopped a ton hoping it would work. I used CentOS 7 for a few months but got sick of how behind the times it is with the repo... Plus crashed regularly.. and had drawing issues. So.. I waited for a sale on AMD.. Finally I got my hands on two RX580s (sorry the market tanked miners) ... Problem solved go red team! ... Not exactly. :( ....That is until I watched this great video. Updated kubuntu to 4.17 and... hooray! Displays are working! Thanks Wendel!

Unfortunately most game publishers still offer their games primarily on Windows and Mac platforms. We can still use them with Wine and PlayonLinux but some of them require hours and hours of tweaking before understanding how to make them work. There is a great community called Gamers on Linux (search their blog) and a dedicated You Tube Channel where they give you tips on how to make your non Linux games work. I would love to have games play out of the box for my Linux Mint system! I don't want any dual boot on my machine nor even contaminate my beautiful Linux system with a Windows OS even if it's inside a virtual box! Windows got me so fed up with them I never want to hear their name again!

if anyone on here can help me out, im stuck. specs: AMD FM4100 quad core processor, 20gb ddr3 ram, not sure about the mobo, and the graphics card is a 9800gt (old i know but i got it for really cheap). the board doesnt have uefi so i couldnt do the flash drive option. so i installed it on a disc. it didnt work but when i went to install regular ubuntu, the installation media came up and let me install it. my problem is that once i installed steamos with ubuntu on my drive, it never booted into the OS. the motherboard will try to load the OS but never moves on from the screen. ive tried google and steam forums to no avail. any ideas?
