David Lee Roth's early music includes "whistle register" notes way up high there. Please talk more about this sort of thing! (See also Mariah Carey.)
ОтветитьYou're reaction to Eddie's solo is extremely appropriate and appreciated by us music nerds. There is no denying his phenomenal talent.
ОтветитьElizabeth: "Is this really what happens with young men in school?!?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 🎉
ОтветитьOMG first things first, anyone can tell your embarrassment is showing big time when you laugh, and I think it’s funny how you’re trying to analyze their voice techniques on a rock song… lol
ОтветитьI had a long winded observation of you trying to concentrate on the vocal while that circus was rolling into town but your face said it, it was something else, huh?! In DLR's words I might say; "It sure is a lot to take in on a daily basis"
ОтветитьEddie Van Halen - guitar and keyboards
Alex Van Halen - drums
Elizabeth: I think I know how Dave produced those 'whistle' tone screeches you talked about at around 9.20 in the video I think and also near the end. I tried it several times: breathing in while producing tone with the vocal chords and expanding / closing the mouth to influence the pitch. Try for yourself, with a 'wow' sound for instance. :) And thank you for a great and fun analysis! Keep up the good work, I always enjoy watching your videos!
ОтветитьA little late to the game here. Great input on David. The dude has an upper range that would make the beegees blush.
About the R&B comment. You’re spot on. Eddie would very subtly work that in. He was a master.
The fact that he's an "ex" is a travesty. There are some things that you shouldn't let go of once you've got them...
ОтветитьDave could of been a great singer. But he chose to be showman; male version of a stripper instead.
ОтветитьThe drums in this song always reminds me of a big cam in a v8 engine.
ОтветитьListen to VH1, and VH2! Edward Van Halen changed the trajectory of rock guitar for decades! I have three early 70's Marshall stacks, a Saldano SLO 100,two EVH 5150lll combos, an Ohmite voltage regulator, yet I still sound like me.
ОтветитьGreat song and great video.
ОтветитьEddie was a guitar god and Alex was bedrock of the band that supported lifted the sound of the band. Missing Eddie everyday.
ОтветитьSo have you watched Metallica in Moscow?
ОтветитьTrue 80s video
ОтветитьThis sprung up the fraze of (where's Waldo)
ОтветитьYou talk too much
ОтветитьI always considered "1984" Van Halen's best all-time party album - I'm glad you picked "Hot For Teacher" as a perfect example of Van Halen's ability to speed at 300 miles an hour and never lose their grip - the video of course is tongue-in-check and Diamond Dave made sure his lyrics could be shot for MTV - these guys were Masters of their Craft!❤🎸🎹
ОтветитьActually, Eddie Van Halen was an original. Everyone learned from him, the only guitarist of his caliber was Jeff Beck, EVH started tapping and everyone tried after... He was self taught, and was Dutch. He even knew Angus of acdc and chatted in Dutch with Angus's wife, and then chatted with Angus as he appreciated Angus and acdc, Angus said his wife said Eddie was on the phone, and he responded Eddie who...lol
ОтветитьI'm going to let you in on a little secret the drums you are hearing are actually the exhaust Mufflers of a Ferrari then Alex Van Halen joins in just a crazy Genius of Alex Van Halen do a little research on the drumming for Hot for Teacher❤
ОтветитьLove seeing the younger generation enjoying the music I grew up with. ❤
ОтветитьAlex van Halen on drums, Eddie Van Halen on lead guitar.
ОтветитьI loved watching you barely hold it together while trying to listen to David.😂 so great!
ОтветитьThe dance is a.parody fo the follies from 1920s and 30s
ОтветитьThis whole album was fun for both music and videos. The height of Music TV.
ОтветитьPublic schools! Geez!!!! :). I liked how the kid goes to school in a yellow bus Roth is driving, and picks him up in a yellow street rod! like having a hot teacher, changes school's coolness factor! Ha! This is just meant to be a silly work; and it resonates with youngsters. BTW, Expect your son to get this way around the fifth grade. You've got that long to inculcate good values in him before the hormones start... :)
ОтветитьThat's my old High School !
ОтветитьIn my opinion Eddie van Halen was one of the greatest guitar players I have ever known.
Too bad he isn't with us anymore... 🥲
A few van Halen biographies out there. Great reads. David's growth as a vocalist is like a supernova! Wish I could have watched them in the clubs.
ОтветитьI honestly don't think they put all that much thought into the sound of their vocals. your Analysis simple stresses too much on them deliberately thinking of how they announcutate. Perhaps the eng. would but not them.
ОтветитьDavid is one of the great frontmen.
ОтветитьSuch a fun song :) I had a huge crush on my third grade teacher. She looked almost exactly like Jacqueline Kennedy did when she was younger.
ОтветитьThe kid's voice is actually Phil Hartman in this music video from 84.
ОтветитьElizabeth i know you said you are not a guitar expert....but do yourself a favor and find Eddie Van Halen playing Eruption.... there are parts where you'd swear the guitar was singing 😮
ОтветитьWho knew learning about dipthongs would be so fun😂
ОтветитьDid you pick your blouse to match their disco tuxedos on purpose?
Ответитьi can see why her man left her talks to much
ОтветитьWow.............
ОтветитьVan Halen is definitely one of the rock bands of all time.
ОтветитьHair looks like fire... beautiful lol
ОтветитьTry Just a Gigalo by David Lee Roth
ОтветитьWhat is unique about this band.. is that on one hand, you could consider them "highschool rock", or "party rock", where on the surface some of their music just seems kinda goofy. Fun. And it is of course exactly that. But if you step back and analyze what is ACTUALLY happening here... everything in David's vocals, Eddie's guitar playing, Michael's bass playing AND invaluable backup vocals, and Alex's awesome drumming... with the arrangement.. you will eventually start to realize that their musical genius far exceeds the surface quality of the party rock that you initially hear. They truly are an incredible band.
ОтветитьThank you for being a young woman and having a proper, healthy sense of humour, and not being "offended."
ОтветитьMost people admire Eddie because of his fast solo playing, the tapping and stuff. But in fact he is one of the greatest rhythm players, too. He started with drums before he and his brother Alex switched their instruments. There are many guitar players who can play as fast as Eddie, but his playing is still outstanding because he had this special rhythm feeling that others don't have. And Dave may not be the best singer - technically - but he's powerful with pure charisma! A true entertainer.
ОтветитьOh come man we are all hot for teacher and you know it
ОтветитьDave was great because the voice and the masculine flamboyance. Frank Sinatra & 80's aerobics payed off!!
