I feel embarrassed as a human being listening to the ridiculous sums bid at auctions. It's humiliating.

How was this a "FUN" auction with "TENSION"?
You don't go into bidding for an item like this without having a good idea HOW HIGH you'd be willing to bid.
It was SLOW and there was NO tension.
Especially with the 10M start, there was NO rising to a crescendo, it was even/calm throughout.

He's NOT even using his salesmanship, he's letting the room do the work...where's the SELLING of the watches uniqueness?
It's the one and ONLY PN, best watch or Rolex the world over, mentioned the good cause ONCE..., but you can read about it in the magazine, that's lazy presenting Aurel.

Also, $15.5M for a watch is dumb.

The initial offer was $1M. Why jump it to $10M after that? Someone with a lotta money & doesn't care. Or maybe a syndicate pooling their money. It's stupids' money.

I met Newman at a Can Am race in Edmonton. Alberta. Great guy and very willing to talk racing with anyone. Having said that, this kind of money for a watch is just stupid. I think he would laugh his head off at these people.

I wear a $200 Seiko that's been hundreds of feet below the surface. My work as a commercial diver puts me in the position to laugh at the weekend diver with a $2K or $10K Rolex.
Honestly I spent most of my dive time wearing a $40 dollar Casio stainless. It's rated for 600ft, never quits, takes a beating and can be replaced at Walmart.
If you spend much more than that it's your ego that's doing the buying.

I'm sitting here watching, with my Belgian welfare income of 1200 Euro/1500 Dolars a month and then someone puts-in a starting bid of ten-bloody-million dollars. Ten million. That's 8334 months income for me and a lot of other people in my situation. I don't mind someone willing to pay that amount of money for a simple watch, but the discrepancy is mind-boggling.
