How to Forgive and Let Go of Your Past - Joyce Meyer

Never thought I'm gonna need a message about this again, but here am I. I've struggled with forgiveness basically my whole young life, bitterness, horrible self esteem. One time God flipped everything over and I finally forgave. But Satan dragged me back into this dark pit and I couldn't get out I felt bitterness and anger rising again in me and I need to hear messages about forgiveness over and over and it hits differently every time, God takes care of that!

Correct: let go of former spouses

ONE DAY, IT WILL DAWN ON THEM.

There is a way some people are treating you today because they don't know who you really are. They know what they have heard. They know your past. They know what they can see from your outward appearance. They know what you have told them.

But they don't know YOU. They don't know what is in the scrolls of your destiny. They don't know who you are in the Heart of God. They don't know the future He has for you. Because, you see, not many people care enough to look beyond the surface and seek God's Heart concerning others. What they can see from the outside is enough for them.

So forgive them. They don't know what they are doing. The day they discover who you were all along, they will wish they could turn back the hand of time and treat you better. But God has a tendency of hiding people's true identities, so that people can handle them according to the true nature of their hearts.

Can you imagine how the brothers of Joseph would have treated Joseph if they really knew how to interpret his dreams? What if they knew what was waiting for them in future, and how they would need Joseph to save their lives from dying in famine?

I doubt if they would have mistreated him, mocked him, tried to kill him or sold him off to Egypt. They would, instead, have fought over him to be his favourite in preparation for the future. So they were blinded, because he needed to be sold off, and he needed to go ahead of them to Egypt. They meant what they were doing for evil, but God meant all that rejection for good, not just the good of Joseph but the good of the whole family.

Whatever people are doing to you today, and you're wondering why, you're confused by the rejection and mistreatment...commit yourself to God's care and cling to Him in faithfulness. God will use it for your good and for the good of many people in future. And remember, don't be bitter against them. Don't resent them. THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. FORGIVE THEM.

The only issue I have with this is that "God" is not the name of the creator. All Gods and Godesses have names. "GOD" is only a description. You all think you can give God a gender and that's not accurate about God.

I've listened to Joyce for many years. She's such a phenomenal preacher/teacher.

I used to listen to this woman until today when my phone was just playing and I didn't even know it was her voice but I was in complete disagreement to what she was saying due to the fact that when she use the example she use the terms when the man leaves the woman behind and cares nothing about her and blase blah but 80% to 90% of all divorces are initiated by women. bish get the f*** out of here

Everyone doesn't deserve or even need forgiveness. Some people are who they are.... that's not something we need to 'forgive' them for. Just accept them for who they are and let it go. Move on with your life.

Thank you, exactly what I needed to hear. I've been off and on struggling to accept and forgive and even extend love to someone who manipulated me to the point of deep depression. It's been 1.5 years and every so often I feel hurt by what happened and then I have to hear this lesson. I genuinely want to extend love and forgiveness to this person and I wish them all the best. I understand that they were also in a bad place and took it out on me. Bless them and keep both of us on the right track. I will keep being stretched as I learn to love and forgive as the years go by and I do this with a genuine spirit. God bless

Forgiveness is a powerful act of love and compassion that can bring healing and freedom to our lives. It may be difficult to forgive those who have hurt us deeply, but holding onto anger and resentment only hurts ourselves in the end. As we choose to forgive, we release the burden of bitterness and open ourselves up to a brighter future. Let us remember that we too are in need of forgiveness and extend grace to others as we have been given grace.

Saddly forgiveness is not a light switch that can be turned on and off. Even if you Honesty want to and truly wish then a wonderful life. But they just cant do that one thing that will let you trust someone you cared about so much again.

I'm asking god for a forgiving heart I've been hurt before like we all have but I've also hurt people who were very good to me as well so really who am I to talk ? ...but to ask for my forgiveness and healing in Jesus name amen 🙏

Someone taught me to make a literal list, of everyone who hurt you. Tell God how hurt you were, be brutally honest! Than pray for them ( living or dead) like when Jesus says pray for you enemies, pray blessings and ask Jesus TO HELP YOU forgive Each one. The poison in my heart left and I wept for their brokenness! My dad, who ruined his family through drink and violence. I wept for him. It works folks!

yeah but my only concern is that it is hard to forgive if you dont know how to. and then moving on is another thing to overcome. I will pray.

I’ve forgiven 2 people who have hurt me so deeply, but my soul hurts and I still cry for the loss. I hurt them also, but I did not know at the time that I wasn’t the kind person that usually I am

I’ve forgiven, but the pain is still there. I recently watched another sermon of hers where she explained this phenomenon, (she explains it here as well) I forget which one, and it was helpful. God, help me to not be in pain.

To forgive, is a decision, it’s not emotional it’s a decision that one makes to be obedient to the word of God!
