Btw your favorite party is close to mine. The first party I beat the game with was a Fighter, Red Mage and Two Black Mages.

I run a lot more than you do when going through dungeons. Because I did my leveling up earlier.

This means, when I need to pick my spots, I can unload. Also, we get a LOT better after the class change. Dear god, does this setup have some nukes in the arsenal.

Red Mage is probably the only class that lags behind after class change... but they do a lot of the heavy lifting in the early game, as you rightly pointed out.

It's interesting to see that you do some of your leveling up as you go through the dungeons... whereas I'm already good to go beforehand and just run a lot. In your first video I criticized you for it, but I think both approaches can work.

Also: I threw myself at Kary repeatedly and kept dying first playthrough, so I did the Castle of Ordeals first, then the Ice Cave and then Volcano last, for the exact reasons you mentioned. Interesting to learn that my 10 year old self was on to something lol.

I finally beat it - 4 knights felt like cheating until the final dungeon had me locked into a tight situation. Gas dragons really took their tole - despite Ribbons - but alas, I bested Chaos with two warriors left standing. Technically kneeling, but the point still stands. Thanks so much for your guidance! Onto FF III on the NES! (Yes, II is getting skipped lol)

The mermaid named Darryl is likely named after Daryl Hannah, the actress in the mermaid movie "Splash".

Just to throw it out there when you talked about the class change. Masamune can be wielded by any class, period, and it is the best weapon in the game.

So when me and my best friend played this game when we was about 8and9 we found the masamune and we used it as an item I clearly remember and he does as well that when used as an item it cast haste on our whole party and haste makes your guys hit more this made the masters unstoppable at the end of the game we clearly remember using it we both remember this
But we tried it again in the future on Nintendo but it didn't do $hit come to find out you can't even use the masamune as an item
We both remember doing this it wasn't a dream .....so did they change this in later video games ?
So we played the game again and tried to use it as an item and it didn't do anything at all
We had all masters and one black wizard so what happened .....?

If you want to max your characters out to level 50, the fastest way I've found is to fo back to the Ice Cave when you're pretty powerful, over level 20, and head to where you got the Floater. You'll fight The Eye in square guarding the chest and can easily one-shot it for 3000 XP. It doesn't seem like a lot but because you can generate the battle reliably in two steps and quickly defeat the enemy so quickly, you can rack up the XP super fast. The only thing The Eye can do that hurts you, you pretty much mever have to heal which apeeds things up as well, is XXXX but i dont know of I've ever actually seen ot work at this late stage in the game. A bit of time down here and you're Fasted Black Belt / Master is delivering like 1200 damage on a single 12 hit critical attack on enemies without super high defense. If anyone has found a quicker way to max out, I'd loke to know about it.

I'm following along on Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster. In the Volcano I get a fight with 2 fire gigas. One of them attacks my RDM in the third slot AND gets a crit (286 dmg) and one-shots him. I'm so pissed lol

It's been a REALLY long time since I played this version of the game, but I'm pretty sure you can walk to the left above the Nightmare trap tile in CoO to avoid it on your way back from the chest.

When I was working for NOA in Seattle country, the game play counselors all said 4 white wizards was the toughest team to get thru this game.

I took 2 years of German in school, too. And, I still don't know the language very good.

Having to buy 1 healing spell at a time is dumb. Programming that would be tricky.

Final Fantasy 2 when?

I played this game a TON as a kid and one of my all time favorites. U did the optimal playthrough fairly well but I prefer to hit a couple of the side quest dungeons earlier to have access to high level gear. Once u get the canoe, I typically go straight to castle of ordeals, then ice cave, then waterfall for defense/items. After that it's to the water temple only going up to get high level gear/tablet. At this point your so overpowered u can run through all the dungeons easily if u want but I find it more challenging to go to mirage tower to sky palace to get adamantum then exit out. The rest is easily wrapped up. No level grinding needed after grinding crescent lake area(after earth cave). I only did level grind there because XP is high and honestly I didn't know about the peninsula of power until u made these vids. I've played thru this game at least 20x and u still found something I missed! Kudos!

I see you favor stronger defense stats in the late game. I usually equip the heal helmets, power/zues gauntlets on the fighting peiple and Magic shirts on the wizards. Then I lean heavily into the magic use equipment. It does slow things down having 3 guys using heal items during weaker fights but it feels faster than buying 1 potion at a time.

I have a feeling a lot of people watched this for the nostalgia, but I'm a bit younger than the typical NES crowd and don't have any so I actually used this guide as intended. I just want to thank you for all the work you put in. I loved the running gags (the item shop's strict 1 item policy, the troll infestation, UCan's attitude, etc.) and your similar turns of phrase ("and we meet again our old friends the........". Listening to you made me realise you're a very intelligent person. Anyway I just wanted to thank you as you really helped me. I don't think I would have had the patience to beat this if it wasn't for these videos. Thanks and best of luck in 2023.
