Who would've guessed that Spaceborn II would actually be the better Starfield in concept and design.

Been playing a lot of spacebourne 2 lately (my DayZ crews is missing me}. The game still needs a lot of work but is pretty fun as it is. I feel that it has a pretty solid core that just needs a few wrinkles ironed out then fluffed out and it will be a great game. Most definitely worth the price of admission!

I have been playing video games since 1975-6 or so, Video games have gone back wards rapidly since the years 2,000 when gaming studio`s changed from fun complicated games worth playing to micro transactions in their ever more need for greed,
no mans sky = crap. procedurally generate worlds that start repeating after only 6 worlds, I felt more than ripped of.
Star citizen is worlds apart from and makes all current releases of space games look like the 2 dollar bargain bin at EB stores.
I tried Elite and it refused to recognise my mouse( 220 dollar mouse) so i could not use the in game menu to get permission to take of so i got my money back and will not be going through that pain again.
Star field is not a space game. To be a space game you need to be able to pilot through space.
You need to be able to go any where anytime , go to anywhere on a planet, moon, asteroid any time.

Anyone ever find out why they call it a "space" suit in Starfield when you never need it for that purpose? SF Devs missed the mark by a parsec. We've been waiting for an actual "space" game but one has yet to be seen. The closest thing was Hellion, and still is IMO.

Dual Universe has impressed me. It brings creativity and business sense to gaming. Unfortunately the game play is less than perfect, but hopefully it will improve over the next few years.

And what about the X series games?, X4: Foundations? That game has everything, even the X3 an old game is still very good. X gives you a lot of freedom and is very complex, they are great games!

not sure why but i couldn't get into everspace 2, felt a bit grindy so i dropped off it

Mostly funny and cutesy games except for Starfield and Elite. Everspace 2 wasn't too bad with the one ship. Had almost the same pacing of repetitive action like NMS.

Starfield doesn't even feel like a space game to me. My favorite space game is Star Citizen despite it being so long in development.

I finally got together with friends and figured out how No Mans Sky works. I also still love Space Engineers too :)

Starfield now has a 29% (mostly negative) status on steam. I've also heard that the game is such a dud that modders have refused to invest any time into it.

I played Elite Dangerous on console for hundreds of hours some years back. Now I've graduated to PC I'm often tempted to return but the grind puts me off. I can't even remember how long it took to get the Corvette lol

May I ask, why is Star Citizen nowhere to be found on this list? It sure as hell is a lot better than KSP II or Starfield in my view, and I think that there are probably a lot more citizens that see it the same way!

How is Everspace 2 like Diablo, or Borderlands, it is single player.

Not even an honorable mention of Star Citizen? While I agree it needs a LOT of work still, you can't argue with the visuals and ship mechanics. When the game finally comes out of alpha in ahem 3024, it's going to be great.

I like my space games but none of these titles offer the same freedom I get in Star Citizen, it's got it bugs but for extreme realism and Immersion I'de choose it over any of these you listed.

I know star citizen is not finished yet but imo that was my fav space game I played in 2023.

It's been said before but if you are into single player, space exploration and universe domination, X4 is deeper than the mariana trench. Not to take away from the games listed but this overlooked oddity has playability in spades. Thanks for the videos and keep up the good work 😀

No man sky has almost 8 years of updates and development.... and you compare it to a game like starfield that has been out for 3 months.....

Im not a massive Starfield fan, but this seems a little silly.

X4 is without question still one of the top 3 space sims around.

The Best Space Game of the Year - 2023 Nominations include 2014, 2016, 2022 and the winner 2021. More than half the list released prior to 2023 and does not qualify for a GOTY 2023.

I think i finally was able to pinpoint the reason why Starfields exploration (other than being empty planets and loading screens) is LIGHT! So normally in almost all video game development from the beginning a massive majority of guiding a player through the game or world and make sure things arent missed. So normally like with Alan Wake 2 for example. Theres usually a large light, the brightest or the only light or a special color light and that draws your eyes subconciously and attention. So you had toward that. And literally any other game for decades has done that with similar variations or slightly different ways of the same action. But since starfields planets are light like real planets and the angle at which the structures spawn changes it means a different way the light enters and spreads through the structure which makes it almost impossible to naturally explore with it more being a rush around a maze the first time. Then everytime you see that exact structure again you know the layout cause you just got lost for an hour in a tower... and thats only in structures. But yet you can tell bethezda still tried to use lights to drawn your attention but since you are so rarely actually in structures for longer than a couple minutes you just have nothing but normal star light which just makes everything look the same when there is no atmophere and just bland when there is. And mixed with the nothingness and endless walking and loading screens the lack of any true light source or way of drawing the players attention just makes everything feel even more seperate and disjointed. Then theres also the fact that even ligghts and attention drawing doesnt matter when there isnt anything to draw your attention to...
Everspace 2 was absolutely incredibke though. Yeah its disappointing its only ship and there is a very limited variation of weapons with only different rarities. But the game is fun and challenging and is just absolutely breathtaking with its graphics. Every single system and every single planet or area in that system are all just absokutely incredible looking and always fun to explore. And while some areas were a little frustrating just by their large size making finding the last secret near impossible without luck, id still rather fly around for an hour aimlessly in Everspace 2 then run one more mile in starfield...
