Correction correction: I have triple-checked and my Babyface really does deliver 125 dB(A) dynamic range with the XLR output. I might have gotten lucky here and I wouldn't expect every Babyface to reach this exact dynamic range but they will be close and that's an excellent performance.

Julian, I’m having a tough time deciding between the Audient i44 mk2 and an rme babyface fs or the ucx. Your thoughts?

Julian, how come the Babyface Pro FS doesn't have the same respect in the voice over community as the Universal Audio Twin?

I need only two inputs (guitar and vocal mic) for my small home studio and I don’t need portability either. However, I want the best latency available. Is this still a good choice for me or is it overkill?

I'm assuming RME don't use built-in EQ Room correction to prevent from adding RTL. And also because mostly, people using RME have already a brilliant room and a brilliant system, so mostly, don't need this feature.

One of the great thing about the RME products is the clocking accuracy over adat.

The Babyface ticks all my boxes at an acceptable price EXCEPT for this deal breaker:
There is NO DYNAMICS available in the dsp fx...dynamics being the ONLY dsp FX that I would ever print when tracking. ...and the whole f*cking reason for dsp latency free FX.

Hey Julian, here's another Julian :) Nice review - just one thing I think should be mentioned regarding RME in general: The driver support for their products is second to non. You will most likely never run into the issue of not having proper drivers for your old interface trying to use it with your future system. I think that's is one of the BIG pluses when buying RME stuff and saves you money in the (not so) long run; particularly compared to other brands. For me this was the main reason to get RME interfaces and I will never change that for exactly that reason; besides their state of the art performance as a brand. Best regards Q

Hi. I'm looking for the cheapest interface that will make my audeze lcd-x sound good, and I'm seeing from your comparison table that the Audient iD4 mkII can be a good option. Currently I have the SSL2+. How about? Would it improve the sound I currently get with SSL? From the table, it seems that the Audient has nothing to envy from the RME in this regard, right? Thx 🙏

Hey, do you know how to setup multi client operation? When I'm performing a liveset it would be cool to have a loop playing as backup for when Ableton would crash, do you think this is possible? Love your reviews btw :D

Wish I had $1100 to drop on one .. My Motu Ultralite MK4 has been a buzzkill, regular audio glitching on the analog inputs when tracking to my mac, which is a common issue.

Are there any other interfaces that come close to RME’s low input latency and solid drivers, but in the $600 to $700 range?

Another fantastic video. Thanks for that! Have you considered doing a review of the Apogee Duet 3? I'd love to see how it stacks up against interfaces like this RME and a lot of others around this price point. Preamp noise, frequency response and AD/DA converters etc are all aspects of the Duet 3 that I haven't been able to find much into about. Cheers! R

The gain is displayed here with something like 58 or 59 dB. But in Totalmix you can choose between 0 up to 65 dB. What does that mean? Are the numbers in Totalmix wrong and the real gain is lower? Is that linear over the range from 0 to 65 dB? Did you check that?

How do Audio terms like precise stereo image, deep sound stage,... transform into the world of measurements? I get that channel uniformity, low THD, high SNR are probably the first things, but those are all static measurements. Clock Jitter is a dynamic parameter I can think of. Any other ones that influence such subjective sound parameters? Channel crosstalk maybe, on headphones at least.

Great review as always, Julian. I wish that you would point out wether you are using the device in USB Class Compliant mode, or with proprietary drivers. That mattters for the RTL tests. Dependence on proprietry software also matters for future proofing of devices, and is a clear negative in my point of view. The piece of gear you acquired works on your current system, but will it work on your next one?
