SWTOR in 2023 | New Player, First Impressions

I remember playing the game from the pre-order, planets flooded with new players going about doing stuff, such an amazing game, I dropped it as soon as it got the cartel market, f2p ruined it for me, Ive tried getting back but never managed, still have a lvl 50 inquisitor i think, first time i got my hands on him again i didnt know what to do or how to play lol...

I have literally just bought a steam deck for this game been wanting to play it for YEARS

Please tell me you played the expansions

Have played this game for years, dont anymore. Great to see that they still make changes. Originally u start as a set class in a set storylins and at lvl 10 can choose your advanced class between two. For example u start as an inquisitor and later can choose between witcher and assasin. But now u can play the inquisitor storyline as marauder or juggernaut. Which were originally sith warror advanced classes. Tho I liked the idea of being like a noob and after u finish ur first planet u choose an advanced class. Made it feel so much more special.

SWTOR and Skyrim will always hold a place in my heart forever

As an old KOTOR fan, I basically played SWTOR as a single player game with expansions for each character class.
My favorite was the Imperial Agent.

Almost everyone I know who tried this game all said the same thing….If this game didn’t look so doughy/cartoonish and had a better art direction with more realistic textures….It would be ridiculously popular. Everything in the game is just so goofy, even when it’s trying to be serious. Imagine if bioware only enhanced their Ui and graphics after Mass Effect 2 & never started to digressed.

The most repetitive planet would be the prison planet. I believe it was called Balmorra or Belsavis

The art style is definitely clone wars/ rebels in vibes so gives that familiar feel

I’ve been playing since first grade, and I’ve watched it evolve over the years and it always amazed me

I played the game at launch, but due to playing WoW fulltime, I couldn't continue with SWTOR. I just started playing again, funnily enough, around the time you released this video that I just found tonight! I would say your experience was pretty spot-on with mine (minus your tech issues, thankfully). The funniest part was finding the zoom out option, which I thought I had looked for and not found previously and ended up finding after doing some Googling.

I am almost finished with the Jedi Consular (Sage/Telekinetics) storyline, then I plan on bouncing between factions to get through all of them. I already have my order laid out too, based on how others have rated the storyline. Great video, and I've subbed after watching a few other of yours on similar topics.

This took me back, man! All the things you questioned or were confused about, i was also confused about back in the day. Except some of the newer things. The map on screen like that used to not be a thing. Just minimap. Level sync didnt exist. the quick travels you had to manually interact with to unlock and if you missed one, youd have to hike it there again 😅 abilities you had to pay for. Its come a long way. And a new dev studio is working on it so theres being new life breathed into it. Thank you for the great video 🎉

star wars is considered sci-fi/fantasy if u think about it the force is just magic, great video though I'm redownloading right now lol

I tried to play but man running for like 8 minutes to do a quest and having to run back sucks ass especially when the quest doesn't give shot

Targeting tip ! : Set "Target Nearest Enemy" to match up with your basic attack.. so say Mwheel UP "basic attack" and Mwheel down "Target Nearest Enemy" or bind them to same button using 3rd party software EZ fluid gaming...

I've played this game for 12 Years. I've always said that this game is brilliant for new players, but not incredibly engaging for veterans. End-game content comes out very slowly, but the lifespan of the game means there's so much to do if you're just hopping in for the first time.

the biggest subscriber boon is the adaptative gear with the mods vendors.

Note: KOTOR and SWTOR are related, they are canon in this "legend" universe.

As a Founder and Legendary achievement holder I would just like to say "Welcome to SWTOR".

The game used to be a true MMO in the fact you had to group for alot of the content, but when player numbers started to dwindle they made it more solo friendly with optional co-op

I'm a Star Wars fan and for the longest time I didn't have a PC, then for a time I had a PC that couldn't run the game. But early this year I got a gaming laptop that ran it pretty much without issues. Aside from the occasional game crash from a flashpoint, which I've only seen twice. And I feel like the majority of the community is pretty friendly, I think you probably got unlucky in the flashpoint mentioned in the video. And people leaving for some reason does appear to crash the game sometimes. I hope it gets fixed soon, certainly looks like the new devs are doing what they can to give us QoL fixes players have asked for for years. Personally I haven't encountered that ToS window pop-up in awhile and it only happened to me once after getting and playing the game for a bit. Overall I really love the game, there are gay/lesbian romance options in the expansions. Other than that the game itself isn't alphabet soup community friendly, but as a straight conservative man it doesn't bother me at all. And while the romance is nice, I don't see it as important as everything else in the game. And I can't deny that I'm hoping to meet my future wife in the game 😅. I really love the game and wished I could've joined sooner. I love FFXIV's story and dialogue, but I feel like SWTOR is so much better because our character can talk and I love the little touch that our character's voice changes gradually as we advance in light or dark side points

Glad to see a positive video of a new player perspective in 2023! There is still so much story left to uncover! A nice note is that by subscribing just one time unlocks all the expansions forever, even when your subscription runs out!
As for favorite Origin story, I'd have to say Imperial Agent, followed by Jedi Knight as a close second.

I've played almost every class storyline, my favourite has to be the bounty hunter storyline.

In my opinion, while the jedi consular is the best Class to play as (Jedi Shadow specialization) The imperial agent has the best story line by far. And that is saying something especially Considering the Phenomenal story lines in that game

This game was way ahead of its time when it comes to Star Wars game or Star Wars story telling in general, despite its critiscism and disappointment from Kotor fans, which I can understand. The lore was so rich and music memorable and true to Star Wars. And the best part being the masterly crafted trailers which are better than most modern SW content. I was honestly saddened that Disney made all of it uncanon, which I hope they walk back on in the future and explore more story telling in this timeline.

In 2016 they had the Dark vs Light event. There was a 12x XP boost for everything. The players asked for the boost to stay when it ended, so BioWare compromised with a 6x XP boost to Class and Planetary missions. This way players could level up mainly from the best part of the game, the Class missions. Heroic then Planetary missions are my second and third best way to level, especially with the up-to-date gear rewards.

The reason why you didn’t feel that much difference in the leveling after getting the reduction is because you were apart of a guild. Guilds can give you a free passive experience boost that last for as long as you are apart of that guild which the minimum is 15%. I suggest players join a pve guild as soon as possible.

I like the game but hate the repetitiveness.

If they just remade this game on a different engine and rebirthed it . . . This game would crush . I wish the PvP combat wasn’t so laggy and clunky . . . It really ruined it for me after years of playing ranked .

My friends and I were there during the game's release and we were excited to enjoy the somewhat new to use SW universe since we're only seen the movies at that point in terms of lore exploration. But wow, was it disappointing and overhyped. The game had performance issues, especially in large scale pvp maps (was it Hoth? I can't recall). Then there were the constant overhaul of class skills due to pvp imbalance in the early days. They tried to keep the PvE interesting with new contents, but it just wasn't that much to do after quickly reaching level 50/60 at that point and wasn't really worth the monthly subscription anymore. Now that I have less time as an adult, I would expect less wait time to queue for PvE and PVP games. Is it still as long of a wait time of sometimes over 10-15 minutes just to get a PvP game going in 2023?

Sith warrior and imperial agent has got to be my favorite class story lines

Glad you like it. SWTOR is really a hidden gem in the MMO space. Been playing since beta test and launch so it's great to see new players get into it. For me the Sith Warrior class storyline is by far the best. Then the Sith Inquisitor and Imperial Agent stories are tied for second.

This game was hugely fun when I first played it it's been many years sadly not having the room for a PC setup has made me not play the game

The companionship in this game ends with companions. The game is dead! Until they come out with a companion expansion it blows! The conversation ends you can't make love to them whenever you want. Just the same one-liners. Even in a story mode Flash Point, you get a stinking Wars bot. No companion groups.

you can only use 2 skills instead of 3 if f2p, but not worth doing as f2p.....you cant wear purple as f2p, unsure if you can wear blue?

did they remove super fat in body types?, long time since I created a character, but my old fatty I created remains, but heard others say they removed that body type when creating?

I haver personally invested a little under 2000 hours into this game, i have been playing for the past 3ish years and love every moment of the story lines, i have completed every legacy ability, have done almost every single Flashpoints. Just the grind of this game is so fun cause its always a different experience with each character :)

My favourite story was the jedi knight, followed by the warrior and agent, I played this game so much in the past and am getting back into it after a two year break.

I loved swtor at launch but got bored with rather repetitive endgame content at the time. Friend got into it recently and I decided to give it a go over the holidays. This video brought back many good memories and got me smiling a lot. Hope we all enjoy it for many years to come. Cheers !

Side note: Once you've paid for a Subscription ONCE, you have access to everything for eternity, you never have to pay again.
I played this game since beta and beyond, stopped after a few years as my friends dropped out. Went back to it 2 years ago to get all 8 characters ready for the new expansion (and get my legacy and Housing in order) as they were to release the expansion a few months later. I had a blast and got everything ready and than .... never went back. Damn i miss it..

Definitely play the sith warrior! And the jedi knight! My 2 favorite classes
