Ok we know what NHV is, but so much other jargon used went right over my head. Someone could do a service by producing a breakdown video of this video

None of this will stop climate change. Millions of tons of CO2 were produced making the batteries, and millions more are produced processing the "black-mass" to get a miniscule amount of metals back out. Zero Lithium an be recovered. Oh, and the millions of tons of CO2 produced to charge it for it's lifetime.
Why hide these facts? It's a scam people.

The gap could be to store Hot-Pockets to warm them up.

Great review! haha from my perspective "dead space" in a vehicle is great, because then you finally have a place you can reach stuff when servicing the vehicle.

Modern cars have become a nightmare to service because there are almost never enough space for hands, tools or the part you are replacing. Forcing you to disassemble way too much when doing maintenance, which results in complicated and time consuming maintenance that cost a lot of money.

My Ioniq 5 and probably many EVs have an Achilles heel issue where “critters” have chewed through wiring. Is there any way that wiring housing technology can thwart this issue? Any ideas to prevent damages?

Please stop using the words sort of.
90 % of the time it's not applicable and dumbs down your explanation.
Thanks
Too many presenters do this and it's extremely annoying 😢

Jordan’s points about the half shaft/hub relationship, the use of the motor’s modules with the 800 Volt architecture, and the importance of drag reduction impressed me the most. Really appreciate his easy-to-follow, thorough approach to explaining these hoist reviews. 👍👍

OK, I watch Monroe Live videos often, and generally appreciate the information provided. But it seems that this presenter and/or script fails to realize that the viewers of this channel are not novices when it comes to something like platform commonality and scalability in the EV sector. We all know about the EGMP platform form Hyundai/Kia. Let's move along without dumbing down to the lowest common denominator.

The dedicated module for 800 V charging comments are unnecessarily confusing. the module would be a voltage doubler to allow charging of the battery at up to 800 V from a charger providing less than 500 V; the inverter and motor windings are apparently being used for provide this functionality. There are no more components required to DC charge at 800 V than at 400 V, as long as the charger provides the required battery voltage.

In addition to wanting a flat lower surface of the battery pack, you also want the battery mass low, so if there is going to be unused volume then above the battery is appropriate.

Some time ago I disassembled a Roborock Vacuum (to replace a fried suction fan), I couldn't believe how modular it was and how simple it was to disassemble and put it back. Increasing the modularity on passenger vehicles will save manufacturers a lot of labour cost

Jordan talks about the clever way Hyundai delivers the 800 V charging capability, but I think misses a marketing advantage.
Because all the EVs that share the same same platform, all the IONIQ, Kia, and Genesis products built on it have 800 V charging _standard_! What a selling point for all 3 name plates and the Hyundai brand overall!

Why aren’t you mentioning the extremely limited production volume for all Kia Hyundai BEV? When you look at the low numbers, the production methods and even design don’t matter as much. I don’t think they’ll keep this platform and processes if/when they decide to produce in high volume.

Good to see no real surprises here. From Sue's video we see that they have saved costs with this model by simplifying the interior compared to the Ioniq 5 halo vehicle. (Which is what I expected and am glad to see).

And while the Tesla model of constant iterations is often lauded, there is really something to be said for doing good engineering from the start and replicating that many times over to bring down costs. They seem to have a good mix of conservative elements that allows them to leverage decades of manufacturing experience, along with a few novel features that show that they arent afraid to do something new when its called for. IMO that shows good management and good corporate culture. The novel use of the motor inverter to do 800v charging work rather importantly shows that their engineers arent siloed into separate departments in a way that prevents system level optimization. Very encouraging.

Especially when faced with so many companies struggling to figure out a strategy, it is refreshing to see a company that understands and can leverage their core competancies while not letting that stand in the way of innovation.

I'd note that there's another advantage of using the invertor for the 400->800V conversion. If you have a dedicated module, it costs more if you use a more powerful one, so you have to make a compromise between charging fast at a 400V charger and the cost of the module ‒ ending up with limits of 50kW, for example (I believe there were some Taycans with that limit). So a 100kW 400V charger is not that great for the car. If you use the invertor, it's the power limit of that invertor and that one is likely much higher already.

For similar reason, I'd really like them to abuse the invertor as the AC onboard charger too. There's a lot of 22kW plugs around here and some 43kW plugs from time to time 😈 (yes, Europe with 3-phase).

800V charging is native to this car because the battery voltage is 800V. What needs to be addressed, is charging this on a standard 400V charger. This is achieved by a clever use of motor inductance and its driver's transistors as a high-power DC-DC convertor.

Only costs $15,000 more (half of which is the tax rebate in the US) than a Tesla Model 3 LR which appears to be better engineered than the Hyundai.
