In part two of this series, join Peter Knego as he sails from Hong Kong to Shanghai aboard one of the last classic passenger cargo liners, the S.S. SHANGHAI, which was on her very last voyage. The 1957-built SHANGHAI was the former Belgian Congo liner BAUDOUINVILLE and later P&O Lines popular CATHAY. P&O sold the ship in 1976 to the People's Republic of China who renamed her KENGSHIN, then SHANGHAI. She entered the Hong Kong to Shanghai service in 1979. In addition to seeing and experiencing almost all of the SHANGHAI as she was then -- from the very tip of bow to fantail, in calm and rough seas -- there are numerous other interesting vintage passenger and merchant ships in Shanghai. Within a year or two, almost all of them would be gone as China began a massive modernization of its infrastructure and major cities. #oldships #pandolines #sscathay #belgianliners #oldcruiseships #oceanliners #shanghai #hongkong #ssbaudouinville #compagniemaritimebelge #easternandaustralian #steamships #classicships #oceanliner #communistships #chineseships
