Last week my supervisor got fired after 10 years working for the company, really nice guy, never missed a day, the reason was the company didn’t make their monthly goal, so yeah don’t care to much about your job

So true. The bottom line is more important in too many businesses.
I've been there. I tried caring less and I was let go. Timing sucked...two weeks before Christmas, but I was set free.

If you take a step back, you waste 40 hours a week at least doing something that you'd rather wouldn't. So why let your job steal your time on this earth AND your mental health?

Awesome lesson learned here! Great examples👍 I just got a job in an amazon warehouse and every employee seems to be competing with one another over rate of package movement for the bigger bragging rights. I'm sure management and amazon loves that☺️ I need my own pace as a disabled worker👍💯 I'm happy with that 😃

I started at a temp job. It’s was hard for me too. Once an attorney yelled at me for not using blind carbon copy for a client. I had no idea what I was doing because I wasn’t a trained secretary. Now I use BBC to CMA.

Spot on! I tend as an HSP to be too loyal, conscientious, and a perfectionist so that I become really stressed and overwhelmed when things don't work out. I've felt like quitting a few times and retiring early but cannot afford to do so, especially given how difficult it is to find another job as a 66 yo during the pandemic that's as safe for me as my current job. I've concluded that I can only do the best that I can but to not beat myself up whenever I make mistakes or get stuck on something. I tend to push myself and not take breaks but realize that I need to take breaks and I don't need to do it all today, it'll be there tomorrow. Your podcast suggestions have given me more permission to care less about my job. thank you. Jenny

I can totally relate! Thankfully the older I get the better I am at standing up for myself! In the past I would take on way to much work and over work myself to the point of getting sick!!! Thanks too my husband I don’t have to work overtime anymore! I had to call my boss today and ask to take some hours off my schedule and I was nervous but I was able to tell them what works for me! If we don’t take care of ourselves no one else will! It’s ok to put your feelings and needs first sometimes and we must learn how to say no when we already have too much on our plate!

Perfect timing. I'll try. I'm not an iTunes person or I'd leave you a review. I'm just starting to figure some of this out, with absolutely no relief in sight but I'm still holding on for now. What's the link between HSP's and trauma or mental health disorders? I ask because I've recently been diagnosed with GAD, MDD and self concept disorder.

Hmm, reminds me of a few weeks ago when I told the hiring manager, during my shift, that I could not take a break. I didn't have time. Because I was just too busy - had too much to do. He said, "Is it because you care?" "I knew you cared" "That's why I hired you. I cold tell you cared."

Yeah, then the companies like to manipulate that fact/quality to get you to work harder for the same money.

Wow, after hearing the video, you have confirmed what I have learned and told myself lately. I used to stress so much because they give me too many tasks to complete at work - tasks that should require more employees but they try to get me to do it all so they can save money on additional employees. The number of tasks were impossible for one person to complete. I would try to complete all of the tasks on my checklist and often run out of time or be sidetracked by additional tasks that would present themselves.

Lately, though, I have decided to relax a bit more and no stress so much about it. The other night I failed to complete multiple tasks that on my list but nothing happened. Nothing was said. No one mentioned it. Sigh. Much better.

I mean, if they cared as much as I do then they would hire another person to help. Obviously they don't. So, why should I care more than they do?! That's absurd.

(Basically, they had only 2 people doing work that required at least 3 people, just so they can save a few bucks on payroll while they were grossing nearly $20,000 on the busiest of days..)

Perfectionism? Time to reference the Pareto Principal. It takes 20% of the time to do 80% of the work and 80% of the time to do the remaining 20%. Perfectionism wastes so much time - so much effort for so little result.

I would rather quit than underperform. It's okay to find a place, people, and purpose that accept your approach. I can disengage in a second if the boss says the wrong thing and, as of that moment, my full-time job is finding my next job.

I work for a fortune 500 banking company and just demoted myself from ft to pt. They took 8% shift diff and $4 because they said my pay was too much for the new role. I'd been searching for the right department within the company that paid well and used my skills for 6 of the 10 years I've been there. I found myself in the wrong department three years ago and started looking for another fit. I'd been posting out for the next three years with no luck. I decided to go back to school and finish the last two classes for my Associates. Still dealing with finding time to study, house work and stress of workplace politics I was failing my courses and had to withdraw. The caliper of people in my department was all wrong, no morals and leadership used their authority to bully. There was a lot of backstabbing. The entire time I was being open and vulnerable with my boss during our one-on-ones but I quickly realized she in fact did not like me. Some associates were treated like friends while other associates where ignored. Basically if you didn't go out of your way to kiss butt you were on your own. After working in various departments (3) and 10 years with the bank I knew I had outgrow it.  I'm highly sensitive but extroverted and I ask questions to get a better insight on what's really expected in higher profiled roles. These kind and educated VP's even eager to share their insight with me would tell me how rewarding their job was sharing leadership articles with me however sadly watching them communicate and exceed expectations time and time again, it was clear they were not getting any support or recognition. They were beat. And these were VP's. I seen what I would have to deal in real life just by observing. Afterwards I thanked my lucky stars that I had matured enough to see that more responsibility and better pay is not all what its cracked up to be. Only then I decided to care less about my currently role but it was short lived because again I didn't have time to care for anything else. Now working on the Associates that I have been trying to get off and on for 9 years now I'm able to focus on my education and maintaining my 3.9 this Spring. I plan to transition into a 2 year program within the medical field. I'm so excited to go into a field that will use more of who I am AND education that speak directly to my career. I mean honestly the only reason I found this podcast is because of my recent desire stop ignoring my gifted/cured characteristics that no one seems to understand more than halfway and to search for a definition for my depth feeling/thinking side to the feeling out of control of my life side. Understanding how to find people, careers (focus right now) and activities that compliment me and in turn live more. There is no doubt in my mind that I needed to sacrifice almost half of my salary to focus on my new path. The dysfunction in that department aided my path as a "sense of urgency" agent. Without that dysfunction I would still be in that department oblivious to the treasures I've experienced in the small amount o time.
