Also. SGB vs Physical Gold: Making charges can be less than 15, roughly 3-5% if you buy Gold Coins or Biscuits etc but there will capital gain tax vs 0 in SGB apart from 2.5% taxable dividend yearly (which in 8 years is 20%)

Just to add to what Rahul said, buying best pick SGB in secondary market would be better than "normal method" if current price is secondary market is less than "current market price" of gold.

Instead of comparing the SGB bought from exchange and the govt issue, you are comparing two SGBs traded on the exchange and labelling the one with the highest price as normal method. I am sorry but this does not make any sense. In fact, if you were to compare the SGB June issue and the bond traded on the stock exchange - SGBJUL27 (which you used for comparison), the govt issue would have fetched you better returns.

Can you please explain the taxation part too ?

Buying from Primary source makes much more sense than buying from Secondary market place. The interest earned will be more.

Normal Method has taken a value of 6200 and issue-price of 2934. Instead, comparing this with prevailing Govt. issued SGB price and face value would have made more sense. Its like comparing apple with oranges.
