This is very useful. Currently, im a journeyman drywall Finisher looking switch trades. I've always thought about joining IBEW, i think i want to fufill that dream now. My math skills beyond additions & subtraction is not very good. What advice could you give me on trying to join the electricians union? I'd appreciate any advice, thank you!

Bidmas or pemdas explained that way makes a lot of people make mistakes, which is why there's all those 'solve this problem' stuff on facebook that people mess up. Each two letters are the same step. So it's more like (Pe)(Md)(as). Brackets and Indices are solved on the same step as are division and multiplication, then add and subtract. Within each step you go left to right. So if you see 3-4+5 you do the whole thing left to right, not addition before subtraction.

613 local this was very helpful. Skills mostly needed are number patterns, plugin variables EX: x=6 so what is 2x+15=, finding unknown values with other related values, and reading a equation and choosing which graph represents the equation. I passed and already working not a week after I got my results.

is this truly what most of the test covers? cause I've been going through a prep course online and it's been really challenging for me. having me do things like analyzing functions, factoring very complex polynomials, trying to solve for a variable given a very crazy looking formula. it's making me feel like I'm screwed but this is not hard at all. hardest is probably finding percents of a number or compound interest or depreciation cause in school I was taught to do that with a calculator so it seems kind of bogus that the test doesn't allow calculators even though we've all got one in our pockets right now and like 95% of tests given throughout academic careers you're provided a calculator, including the mf ACT

Man, this was such a throwback. My teacher never properly explained the FOIL method (didn’t even have an acronym to help), and another match teacher never properly helped me understand fraction, so I was always working with a deficit. This video, however, explains things really well and it feels like the missing puzzle pieces FINALLY clicked in after years

Number patterns is very important, so is solving linear equations. You will almost certainly have multiple questions of each of these on your test. As of today multiple of both of those were on the test.

When finding percentages of a whole number, if we divide by 10, then divide by 10 again you get the one percent value. Theoretically you can just multiply that value by whatever they’re asking for right? So 12% of 80 1%= .8 so .8 x 12 =9.6

the easier way to find the percentage is 80 x .12 = 9.6. or 76 x .27 = 20.52

The local I tested for didn't have any questions from chapters 2, 3 and 4.

I got a lot of questions from chapters 1, 8, 9 (just a little more complicated) and 10. Some problems ended up with me solving fractions (adding and multiplying though) so brush up on that. I got several questions about analyzing functions and function information analysis as well.

Calculators aren't allowed on the test and you'll be given paper and pencils. Just thought I drop this info so that others know what else to brush up on.
