Going From DIRT To STRIPES In 15 Days With SEED

Hello, I have a front lawn that has a large tree with thick roots underneath. Last summer I tried to plant SOD and it didn't take. Do you have any recommendations on what to grow or how to grow seeds on dirt that has large tree roots underneath?

Just had a new septic system installed. The ground now is a mixture of uneven sandy-soil and rocks. I will be adding topsoil. The yard is about 2700 sq. feet. Should I rent a rotor tiller or is there something better I should use?

I am against any round up/ glyphosate products knowing kids playing in the yard but I did take lots of tips from your video, thx!!

Thanks Vince, I did it ur way (except peat moss) I raked it in then rolled it. it is coming in right now, the freeze stalled it for a while lol 3 weeks later I have annual rye. Very slow germination in the cold

Do you have to put down peete moss or just a prevention for rain storms in so cal we dont get much rain.

Very nice job! Peat moss is amazing. I always use it when seeding bare spots or new installations. Without it I think your chance of success decreases. There's nothing like fresh stripes on a new lawn 👍

Thank you for the tutorial liked and subscribed and am confident you're the yard specialist I needed so thank you. I live in northern Iowa and have just had the time to start working in the yard, once the leaves dropped and were removed I was motivated to finally tackle the situation. The front yard after years of abuse was left bare from over compaction, shade, a pair of German Sheppards that kick up dirt tails when they run and cut a turn like a solemn skier does at the lake. Not to mention the lawn rised at least 5 or 6 inches higher than the sidewalks and with no drainage an inch of rain floods leaving all the walk ways muddy and it's just miserable. Yesterday I bought a root tiller and tilled the front yard as deep and as fine as I could. It went better than expected I'd say I now have 10 inches of clean fluffy dirt to work with I need to remove a bunch and put in a drainage system so the water has somewhere to go. I have good seed but it's late in the season and I'm assuming there are few nutrients in the soil and its already gotten below freezing a couple times up here. I haven't spread seed ot watered anything but tomorrow I'll have it ready for seed as far as leveling and that goes. What should I do? If the Gras doesn't take root and grow some cover the yard will be a muddy shithole that will make its way into the house all winter long. Should I plant something like a cover crop that grows fast and will negate that issue. Should I cover the dirt with rolls of plastic over the winter that will get covered I. Snow so at least it won't get muddy sloppy when it gets warm. Or should I get after it water the hell out of it and hope for the best, should I just move and leave it for the next guy? Lol any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless

What can be done after too much seed is put down? I used a digital scale and the driveway I set it on was very slightly out of level and made the readings lower than true weight. This was PRG Lesco Double Eagle.

Can I overseed my Bermuda lawn with tall fescue just for the winter? I don’t care about aesthetic my dogs own the backyard just need tear around durability

I’d love to find a product that can replace glyphosate. I refuse to use chemicals (carcinogen) like that. Do you have any suggestions for a more natural product?

Great video. Thanks! Quick question for you. I’m in Arizona. I currently have Bermuda on my lawn but I need to do some major leveling so I’m thinking I want to do a renovation like this. First question is it OK to do a renovation now and plant ryegrass for the winter and then plant Bermuda seed again in the spring? Second question, do I need to kill the Bermuda or can I just scalp, detach and level and just let whatever stays alive go dormant and grow back?

The stupidest investment ever heard about 😂 Got about 2 hectares mansion, which includes ca 1 hectare of lawn and it is not perfect, but would never ever replace it like this. Wasting of time, money and usage of this poison called roundup. Unbelieveble!

Do you have an email ? I have a brand new lawn, the sod that was used was junk, I have nothing but a crabgrass backyard. I'm in Louisville KY, using a Kentucky Bluegrass/ fescue seed, just want to do this correct. I know to really get the thick lawn it's gonna take time. Any help would be awesome.

Phenomenal lawn!! I’m considering doing a full lawn renovation, but not sure if I need to. I could probably get away with heavier overseeding. My lawn is mostly fine fescue (creeping red I think?). I do really like how it looks when its cool season time, but in summer it looks pretty rough. The area is mostly shady with a few smaller sections in mostly sun, how does perennial rye do in the shade vs Sun? I’m debating whether or not to overseed with fine fescue, rye grass or TTTF. tough call cause I want it to blend together but also considering how the sunnier parts will hold up in our hot summers here in Maryland. Curious to know what you think!

I just laid rod it needs to be leveled, it’s Tahoma 31. Im a month into laying the sod, can I top with sand or is it too early. Can I use herbicides to kill weeds in the 1mo sod?

This is great. I live in Houston and my wife and I bought a house and the backyard is an uneven and patchy St. Augustine, Bermuda, crabgrass and many other weeds. I want to remove about 2-3” to get rid of the existing mess and bring in fresh soil and seed with Bermuda and ryegrass. I’ve never attempted any project like this so it should be fun and challenging. I live in the California desert, and I want to plant some lawn seed in a couple of smaller areas so my dog can go potty and it will not hurt her paws. I'm not going to do my whole yard just a couple of sections. How do I go about it? Thanks. My first try was to buy seed and the ants got it and it didn't go very well. I cannot use roundup because I have animals (a dog, cats and there are desert iguana's living all around my property which I try to be respectful of and put water down for them etc. Last thing I want to do is harm them. They live under the ground, but I should be fine with the areas I want to put the grass seed on.

Hi Vince, I’m in Winter Park, Florida and interested in doing a lawn reno. Thinking of seeding fine blade perennial ryegrass for the fall (I have some shade). What turf seed would you recommend for the hotter months? Should they be seeded together?? I will also mow low with cylinder mower.. would like the “Wimbledon lawn” look. Thanks - Boyd

When you raked the seed did you use a metal rake, plastic wide leaf rake or leveling rake?
