Luxembourg - Math Olympiad Question | You should know this trick

You forgot that the square root of 9 is also minus 3, etc., square root of 8 has a plus and minus value as well, and the square root of a negative number will have an imaginary component. At the end you put in "absolute" sign for positive/real SOLUTION, but the absolute sign should have been used--three times , no?--in the question. NOW it's a math olympiad problem.

I think the solution is incomplete because it is possible for a = 1 and b to be a square root of 2😊😊

I hate how you idiots break the rules of math to solve these problems, where the fuck did radical 1 ever come from??? Both expressions were under a radical and one evnlen had and extra radical, we ignored the main radical and then somehow we only applied it to 3+1 qgain after factoring, bullshit.
